Hi!! Glad to have found this site  :)
I'm 27 and from NI... I went through premature menopause when i was 14 or 15 for reasons unknown  :(

However, my partner and I have recently went down the egg donation route.  Thankfully my sister has offered to donate but its all very early days.  As a result, im now on HRT whereas I was on microgynon  for a long time before.  I'm wary of the risks involved in taking HRT over a long period of time though!!!  Id loved to hear from someone that is maybe in similar circumstances with any of this

Welcome to the forum Auntiejo  :welcomemm:

You will find lots of help and advice on here. We have other members going through premature menopause and no doubt they will be along soon to welcome you.

If you are in premature menopause then you need HRT up to the normal age of meno (51ish) in order to protect your heart and bones. Oestrogen has a beneficial effect on heart and bones. As you are merely replacing what would have been in your body anyway, if you had not undergone premature meno, then HRT is not seen to put you under any risks up to the normal meno age. It is only when it is prescribed after the normal meno age that the risks begin.

Gosh that is so young! I am so sorry for what you have had go through. Mine started around 30 (34 now) no children so I am also going down the egg donation route - we are just in the process of getting on the waiting list - its a long old process! 2 years minimum Im told.
I am going to take HRT until the recommended age - I know there are risks but everything is risky - not taking them is risky and for me, the relief from symptoms is worth the risks of taking them for so long.
Welcome to the site :) Im not often on here posting but there is some great advice from those in the know xx

Hi Spidergirl, thanks 4 the reply. Im 27 now so its only really having an impact on me now as we'd like a family.  I never had any symptoms like hot flushes etc. the hrt is going ok with me so far though.  We have our egg donor ready and willing but its the waiting process now. We r only havin 1 go at this and then we will begin an adoption route if it doesnt work out. Who knows what will be! Good luck with ur donation journey 2, hope it all goes well and doesnt take 2 long . . fingers crossed x

Hi kaz_147

Just wanted to say  :welcomemm:

oops pressed send by mistake....

So sorry to hear you are also having premature meno. My first thoughts on your HRT is that it is a very low dose for someone of your age who would normally have cycled through very high levels of oestrogen monthly. Also this one (Kliofem) gives an artifical progestogen (norethisterone) on a continuous basis which may not make you feel brilliant. How long is it since your last period and are you definitely post-menopausal now? Also are you under a specialist gynae?

I hope you don't mind all the questions but just wondering.

Personally I would look into going back onto a cycle unless there is a medical reason why not ie so that you would have monthly bleed.  Also I would go for a separate oestrogen and progesterone so you can maybe tweak the levels to suit you? Low oestrogen can cause low mood and depression. The oestrogen could be taken in tablet form ( as you are doing now - or gel  or patch - but you might not fancy this route?

The only problem is with high levels of oestrogen you also need high levels of progesterone. There is one that is bio-identical with our own progesterone which may not have quite such a depressive effect ( if you are not progesterone intolerant) and that is micronised progesterone marketed as Utrogestan.

Also if you have an early meno maybe your tesosterone levels have also declined - which can contribute to low mood - I think it would be important for you to be under the care of a specilaist gynae if possible and who may do some blood tests (these are more reliable post-meno - especially if on several occasions) especially re teststerone. However this is often only prescribed to women off label now by specialists.

Hope this helps

Hi auntijo

Sorry to hear you are still feeling bad

What HRT are you on - and is it a particular part of the cycle when you feel low and tired?
Maybe the progestogen doesn't agree with you, or maybe you need to try a different type or method of delivery ( eg change from pills to patches or gel). Maybe you need a higher dose? Maybe your testosterone levels have also declined due to early meno - which affect general energy.
Also have you had your thyroid checked - again maybe due to early meno it may be affected?

I would go to doc and ask - you shouldn't need to feel like this at your age so perhaps a full blood test would be in order ( this is what I was offered at 59 when I went to doc and asked about tiredness)

Sorry I can't be of more help - tiredness is so debilitating.
