Dread going to bed....
« on: May 05, 2013, 01:49:20 PM »

I find that when I go to bed at night I am so aware of my heartbeat and can almost feel a crushing sensation on my chest, which I don't really notice in the daytime.  I never seem to sleep for more than four hours in one go and wake up feeling tired.

Also I still sometimes wake up during the night feeling really really sick.  Does anyone else get this?

It must be 7 years or so since I started the meno - does it ever end?

Have to say that the Oestrogel has certainly helped.

Is your  heartbeat in the ear that you lay on or as surround sound?  Also the crushing feeling may be eased by either ditching the pillows or sleeping more upright.

As for the nausea - low blood sugar?

I used to dread going to bed ......... because of nightmares  :-\ : DH would say 'they are only dreams' but they were much deeper, much more vivid, too busy to be 'only'   :sigh:

I remember having this and it was all part of panic attacks and health anxiety, The Claire Weekes books are very good.

I'm the same sleep badly always wake up at least 3 times in the night.  I too have the sick feeling.  I have to decide if I need something to eat or just try and ignor it and hope I can go back to sleep.  I have had the waking up all the time for years but the sick feeling only started about 8 months ago.  I keep biscuits by the bed now.  I do suffer with anxiety and panic attacks but that is something  I have had for most of my life so not to do with the menopause.

I have the sick feeling too, but don't want to eat biscuits in case I can't get back to sleep afterwards.  Can identify with the crushing sensation in chest too, I have to change position a lot to ease it.

I get terrible insomnia, but have always had that. Not too bad at the moment as I'm on hayfever tablets that are making me really drowsy. Nothing worse than not getting a good nights sleep though :(

Do you eat a big meal late at night? Just wondered as I know eating late at night and drinking wine makes this worse? Do you get any relief if you sleep propped up, in a sitting position. Just thought it might be a hiatus hernia which can cause the symptoms you are talking about. Make an appointment to see the doc. ;)

If your body is hungry your brain will wake you.  If you eat a small biscuit whilst still drowsy you will drop back off to sleep.  When my pup was small I had to have biscuits by the bed, if she needed out in the night ........ she soon cottoned on that there were biscuits on my side of the bed  ;D
