Hi guys,

I know this thread's been dead since 2012 but I wanted to check in and see how you guys are feeling now regarding the twitches.

Have they dissipated, have things helped, has there been any diagnosis? I'm dealing with this myself, some crazy symptoms, and wanted to know about others' experiences.

Cheers.

The other day, the middle of my top lip kept twitching.  Whenever I had my mouth shut, I could feel the twitching in my bottom lip.  Strange feeling........

Hi slay2k - welcome to the forum.

Would you like to share a bit more about your twitches?  There are a few conditions which can cause muscle twitching.

Taz x  :)

Drives me potty sometimes, but it does seem to be intermittent.  Best one was when I got a sudden twinge in my arm just as I was applying my ovestin cream & stabbed the side of my vagina with the applicator  :o :o :o  Not good timing!  Was doing a very good John Wayne impersonation for the next couple of days  ;D

Hi Slay2k

I have been going through early peri ( maybe late now?) for about 3.5 years. Had a lot of twitches, spasming  and uncontrolled jerking in limbs, legs, hands etc  about midway through that time ( also had headaches, facial tingling, entire face twitching etc) as well as many many other symptoms. The twitches/spasms etc have pretty much stopped now ( as have the headaches) and I've moved into other more 'classic' meno symptoms like hot flashes and vaginal dryness ( yay :(   Still have periods but definitely neurologic type symptoms I think are a LOT more common in women then the medical community yet believes during the transition

So ....yes had them for quite a long time  ( definitely 1-2 years) and now mostly gone.

Yes I had the for years and they got progressively worse as my hormones became more volatile. I had twitching thighs to start with and then facial cheek muscle twitching and sometimes a shaking feeling all over. Think it was when one of the hormones suddenly plummeted.

I've not had since being on the pill.

Hi Dangermouse I have come off HRT last Thursday and as from yesterday I have the twitching in my left cheek of face. I searched on here and found your comment. So is the facial twitching to do with the drop of hormones??

Hey, I've since found out it's connected to the sympathetic nervous system which causes the twitches, migraines etc. When your hormones are thrown out of balance it affects your nervous system via the trigeminal (nausea/dizziness) and vagus (digestion/heart rate) nerves amongst others.

It should settle but if you're in peri then your hormones will be all over the place and can naturally rise and fall. Getting more oxygen and cooling the head and neck is helpful if it's bad, so have a walk outside or a cool bath or shower. Getting overheated is likely to make it worse.

Hi Dangermouse I am postmenopausal and it started yesterday. If I screw my face up or nose it twitches in left cheek and I can physically see it.

I'm sure it will calm down then once your hormones settle from stopping the HRT then.

If it continues to bother you then get it checked out with your GP in case it's something viral.
