Well Bette, fruit pudding looks like black pudding but is white with fruit in it.
It's made from flour, suet, brown sugar, currants, sultanas and sometimes a wee bit of cinnamon in it.  It's made into a sausage shape, sliced and fried ( though I sometimes grill it to kid myself on its healthier)
It's a traditional Scottish dish.
I love it but sometimes substitute it with a bit of fried Clootie Dumpling which is another traditional fruit pudding. My Gran used to make them by putting the mixture (which had sixpence coins in it ) into a muslin cloth and boiled in a large pot. The smell was heavenly and if you got a slice with a coin in it then you were over the moon.
These were the days!

Do you have a recipe for Clootie Dumpling Anne ? If you do there's a recipe bit here http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,11133.msg280908.html#msg280908
I'd love to have a go at making it. It's one of the best things I've ever tasted  :D

Thanks San. Might have a go. Will have to shop for ingredients but it will be worth it. Really is delicious stuff. Shop bought dumpling isn't quite as good but is passable with a wee bit of custard.

I'm letting the Scots down, fruit pudding is one of the few things that I can't eat - don't like it at all.  Love a white pudding out the chip shop though.

Oh Sorry San it was me who misread your post. I think my mum has the recipe that Gran used for Clootie Dumpling. I will ask her and put it on the recipe thread.

Pizza and garlic bread! We have been on a cruise and eaten far too much wonderful food, so it will be nice to have something ordinary!
