Anxiety in the morning
« on: May 21, 2012, 07:12:40 AM »

Hi

Can anyone tell me if anxiety in the morning is a menopause symptom? Some mornings I wake early and I am filled with drea and irrational thoughts. I wasn't like this when I was younger didn't really worry about anything. I'm also clumsy I've already dropped a plate this morning  :( :(
As the day goes on I feel better but the mornings at times are almost unbearable. I've been on Evorel 75 since October but this symptom has not gone away. Does HRT not really help with this side of it?
I have good weeks and bad weeks.
Sorry for all the questions x   :-\ :-* ::)

Hi Paulineh
Yes, morning anxiety is definitely a meno symptom. Many of us have had it. There have been lots of threads on it - just do a search! Here is one worth reading:-
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,8633.msg144612.html#msg144612
Personally I have found that HRT has really helped with it but the other things I mention on that thread are worth trying until it really kicks in. (Scroll to the beginning of the thread.)

P.S. The 321 exercise is here - I used to do it each morning in bed as soon as I woke up.

Hi

Thanks Bette for the link I found it really interesting. I'm really wound up this morning as if I was on some kind of energy drug. I'm not!  And yet there are times when i truly feel that well that I'm sure I've come through all the horrible bits.  I don't take anything for the anxiety and I don't want to start. What is it about meno that would cause anxiety? I have freiends who do not seem to be experiencing any of these symptoms which makes me think that perhaps its just me and nothing to do with the memo.  ;D ;D

I think that it's excess adrenaline which can be caused by hormone fluctuations. Low blood sugar exacerbates it, so eating little and often helps. Just because your friends don't get it doesn't mean that it's not meno! None of my friends have anything like my experience but lots of ladies on here have - that's why this is such a great place!

Paulineh, yes I get it, it's not too bad at mo, last year - just awful. I think anxiety is common for some in meno, it seems to be the worst symptom for those who get it. Like Bette says , lots of posts on it with tips on how to help get you through. It is really horrible but you won't have it forever x

Me too, it was the worse symptoms of my menopause.  I was definately worse in the morning.  It seemed to build up just before a sweat/flush - like a tidal wave.  I have been on Evorel 100 since the beginning of January and slowly things are really improving.

Take heart it is not you, just an inbalance of hormones.

As Bette said keep the blood sugars up - bananas and ginger biscuits really helped as I had nausea as well.

Be kind to yourself.  Tx

Thanks  ladies it's good to get some reassurance that it's not only me who feels like this. You're right pj44 as the day goes on it gets better.
Jj I keep hanging on to the thought that it won't last forever my poor husband and son are hanging on to that too.  ;D ;D

I find this forum really helpful especially when I'm feeling a bit low and all over the place.
Many thanks xxx

Hi Lollipop
I am just like you, in the morning I wake up and then think, now how do I feel today, and at that point the anxiety can kick in.  If I am alone at home in the day it can be worse, I start to think of other reasons why I dont feel 100% and the other peri symptoms I have and then I start worrying more.  If I am fully occupied things just dont seem so bad.  My hubbie is supportive, but its now got to the point where he asks 'whats the ailment of the day today', we have a laugh and it breaks some of the tension but I know he really doesnt understand how I feel, how can he.  I am just grateful I am not alone as reading the threads on here almost makes you feel 'normal'.

So a big thank you to the ladies that post on here x

I haven't read all the responses but low blood sugar can cause adrenaline surges which = anxiety.  So eating properly helps.

Clumsiness, yep that's me  >:( I trip over my own feet walking on flat ground  ::)

I too have this underlying feeling of anxiety in the mornings when I wake up and it does improve once I'm up and about. These feelings do improve :meauh: as the day goes on and I find that most evenings I'm completely fine  :) It is the worst part of this stage for me  :(

 to all suffering with this

It passes for me as I work through my daily committments, by the evening I'm a different person I could take on the World: but have learnt not to say 'yes' to anything in the evenings, but wait and see how the anxiety is when I wake  :-\

Thank God there are loads of other women who get this terrible waking anxiety.  Never had this before menopause set in.  Also have suffered with nausea.  Really hope that this one fades.  Think my oestrogen levels must be really low.  At least we know that this is hormones, if that is any help!
