I think we might just live on mince pies, at the grand age of 49.5 I have 'just' mastered them.  Today I found mincemeat with brandy and ginger too, yum.

Dinner is out at Aunties   For Christmas Eve, we often do take out too, Boxing day is usually something very light due to being over stuffed the day before.

A mince pie diet sounds wonderfully decadent! I shall let Christmas flow round me. Others doing the chores. It's probably healthy to have to let go and healthy for DH to be in charge on the domestic front.

I expect we'll have roast chicken and all the trimmings. Boxing Day, DD cooks something like like curry for everyone.

Mulled wine.  Love the stuff, drunk along with warmed mince pies.  Just got my mulling sachets.  Now for the wine.............     Does anyone here like the German cake, Stollen?   Hubby likes it but I don't.  It reminds me of the taste of rum - and I can't stand rum.

Don't know about a gluten free one Ju Ju.
You can get a lot of gluten free these days but haven't come across a GF stollen.

That's basically hot fruit and fruit juice...sure it counts as one of your 5 a day 

And I love Stollen as long as it doesn't have alcohol in it...some of them do.

Absolutely, Dorothy!  Aren't I good? 

Decided not to have a real tree after all, 'cos we're both so busy just now.  Daughter's here next week so we'll get the artificial tree out, without any mess, and decorate it as soon as both we're off the hook, and she can come home to a warm, cosy Christmas atmosphere, mulled wine and mince pies.

Never managed to get my nose around mulled wine. Taste buds yes. But the smell of warm wine wafting up my nose makes me  I have tried so often, but it just isn't happening. However, my daughter came up with mulled cider & I have absolutely no problem with that!

That's interesting!  Glad you can enjoy something mulled, cubagirl!  But it's true - taste and smell do seem to go together where food and drink are concerned.  The only exception I can think of is that fruit you get in Malaysia, called "durian" (Sp?) which apparently smells disgusting but tastes amazing.  (I was in Malaysia last year but didn't see one, let alone try one.   )

I tried some mulled cider last week but didn't like it. Mind you it was made with Strongbow fruit cider which gave it a blackcurrant lemsip flavour to my mind.

The smell is the reason I don't like parmesan cheese!  I'm sure it tastes lovely (I love cheese, especially strong cheese), but it smells awful.  I hate being 'downwind' of people who use it in Italian restaurants too.

Taz - you need a good dry scrumpy for that! All the mulled cider I've had is very tasty - although not very strong of course. I love mulled anything alcoholic!

Never managed to get my nose around mulled wine.

You can get spices for making a non-alcoholic mulled wine type drink using black tea and grape juice.  Alternatively, Bottle Green does a spiced berry cordial - just add hot water.  Maybe you would get on with one of these?

I have to have a completely alcohol-free diet so I always have a bottle of the cordial at Christmas so I don't feel left out of mulled wine parties!

Still not looking forward to it.  No tree up yet.  Sent just a few cards.  Bought frozen turkey today. Bought presents and wrapped them this afternoon.

Will be glad when it's all over. If I had my way I'd be off on a plane somewhere but son comes home and of course Mum will be here and we have a very old creaky dog who we couldn't leave. Then we have to get someone to look after the horses for a week.  Maybe one day hey?
