We are off to visit my Mother in law in Dorset tomorrow, straight after I finish work. She has asked hubby to build her five raised beds, each five feet long by three feet wide and eighteen inches deep so she can grow veg!  How much veg does an 89 year old need! Hubby has tried to suggest she go for a smaller number and explained how much it will cost but she is adamant.

The whole thing including soil will cost a few hundred quid, not to mention poor hubby slaving away on his Easter break. Its a rented place too. Ah well, I guess all that soil shovelling will be good for me  ;)

I feel mean saying it but I was really looking forward to spending some time at home and on the garden and allotment.

I think we may well get some. I'll feel really miffed if we get all the way down there and then can't do the job though! May as well have stayed home. Hubby says he can see himself doing it in the rain!

Can't he go on his own Ariadne? Seems a shame for you to waste a weekend if you are not needed to do the bed-building.

Started to pack the caravan ready for leaving in the morning - don't care if it rains, it will be nice to get away :)  Son joining us on Saturday evening and staying until his birthday on Monday - both my favourite men in one place :) :)

I thought you went to Hungerford yesterday CLKD or was that Sunday?  I'm following you around... Bury St Edmunds is another one of my little day trips.

I'm thinking of going to Majorca or Mallorca for a week in August. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Possibly all inclusive as one teenaged son will be coming with us and he has hollow legs!!!

Well the raised beds are done and we got quite a production line going! Hubby had worked out in advance how he was going to make them and so once we had cut up all the wood and made the first one, we got the hang of it. They were really heavy though - if you imagine each box was 5' x 3' 6" x 9" and to make one bed, we stacked one on top of another and fixed them together.  So we made 10 boxes altogether = 5 raised beds. Then we had to level the garden area where the boxes were going to be sited.

We did it in one day but were exhausted the next day and now hubby's back is suffering. MIL hasn't ordered the soil yet but has someone in mind to fill them.

She was thrilled with them and is looking forward to sowing seeds and not having to bend to look after them  :)

We did manage a visit to West Bay one evening and hubby took some lovely sunset photos.
