:thankyou:  …… we can look at your pup's feet too and have a discussion about what it might be that makes her lick at night  :D …. and I'll show you round my camper  ;)

The birds are having a job to fly straight in this blustery wind  :o

We had our first proper fungi hunt in some nearby woodlands at the weekend - they are very late this year because we had such a dry September but have now started appearing because of all the rain. Found some hedgehog fungi, a type of cep and some chanterelles - all edible yum! Lots of other interesting (non-edible) species too but couldn't identify them all....

Yes to puffballs - many times over the years - have been eating wild fungi since I was in my early 20's - starting in Yorkshire woods where I lived.

Here we had a giant puffball very early in the season - maybe late August - in our orchard (we usually get one), so that was cooked up!

Long-tailed tits are back in the area - in the orchard but not in our feeders, and the peanuts went mouldy so had to throw them away. We are just getting sparrows (sadly down to 8 from 25-30 earlier on) and one pair of chaffinches, and only eating fatballs and mixed bird seed - nothing is touching the black sunflower seeds or peanuts - but then it hasnt been cold yet and the berry harvest is spectacular this year!

We had several flocks of Canada geese flying overhead yesterday. They land in a nearby field. However, one seemed lost as it was waddling back and forth the public footpath at the end of the garden. I hope it found its way to the field as the path is frequented by dogs walking their owners. I love the honking noise as they fly overhead.

My son lives by a lake in the summer in the USA. They call it a pond. They have a family of Loons that live on the pond. (Great Northern Divers) I love their haunting ghostly call day and night.

Oh Ju Ju - you have got good hearing  ;) ……… if you can hear loons from home ……  :whist:

Our wild birds are back on the nut feeders for about 3 weeks now, tits mainly; could hear a robin singing; occasionally goldfinches visit the black niger seed feeders and live meal worms arrived with the courier a few moments ago.

Hopefully next summer. My sons in laws own a fair of land by this private lake. They live in lovely cabins. Swimming, kayaking etc. It gets snowed in the winter, so they live in a proper house in the winter. Beautiful place. He's a very fortunate lad.

I recently changed the roof on my conservatory from polycarbonate to glass.  One unexpected bonus is seeing birds from the underside.  I sometimes sit out there to try and relax and have some quiet time and today a heron flew over.  It was enormous and seeing it  from the underside was quite remarkable.  I do love nature :) xx

Fieldfares have arrived! - I saw them and heard their chattering in the trees and fields this morning - I love to hear that sound, for me it is so evocative  :)
