Title: Different estrogen in patches ?
Post by: lillith112 on June 29, 2022, 05:40:50 AM
Is the estrogen in patches a different form ? They all say Estradiol, but I'm having constant migraines on Evorel 75, never had this on Estraderm. Had to switch due to Estraderm shortage, I wondered what Estradot is like and if that might be a better option as I heard it's made from soy and is better tolerated by migraine sufferers ?  😞

I’m on Estradot and no migraines here…

They all use the same estrogen but different adhesives so that can affect absorption rates.

Thanks joziel, that's good to know. I had another bad head last night and this morning. Eased off now. I have collected my Estradot from Boots so let's see what happens ! Fingers crossed ☺️

Just to add for anyone interested, I found out that the estradiol in Evorel is made from wild Yams, and in Estradot it's made from soy so even though they both contain estradiol, it comes from different sources which might be the reason for the migraines 😐

Gosh that’s so interesting as a lot of people are allergic to soy! X

I think someone contacted them about the soy/yam thing and the upshot was that there actually is no soy/yam in it, it is just used to make it. Or something. Sorry, a bit vague  ;D

I think oestrogel is yams too...

Find this topic really interesting... I wonder if there is any difference between yam or soy based estradiol? Absorption rates etc!

I’m sort of wondering if this is why some ladies have issues.
Soy seems to have more allergy symptoms than yams and wasn’t peanut oil used at some point?
Also, I wonder what Utrogestan is made from?
X

As above, there isn't any trace of soy or yams in the final product (according to the manufacturers anyway), it is just what the manufacturing process involves somehow...

It's very interesting isn't it. If the manufacturers say the estradiol is the same regardless of the source well maybe we get different side effects from the chemicals used in delivery method ?

I put my Estradot patch on today, OMG, it's tiny compared to Evorel, and I found it really hard to get the backing off, patch got stuck on my finger ! 😳 Will see how I get on with these.

Not easy at all, plus this morning my knickers were stuck on the adhesive around the patch. I feel very low today, I wonder if my estrogen is dropping 😞

Are you pressing down for 10 seconds with the palm of your hand after applying patch?

Yes I hold down for about 20 seconds to be sure. I had to do that with Estraderm as the adhesive on them is awful. Plus I was led on it all night as it's on my right bum cheek and I slept on my right side 😊

Hmm maybe try the front of your body. ?

We do a lot of sitting on bums so it might get dislodged there  ;D

Unfortunately I can't put patches on my lower belly as I have a bad overhang from having 2 pregnancies close together 😞

It doesn't have to be your belly, it can be the very top of your thigh, just under your knicker elastic  :)

Ah ok, thankyou joziel, I might try that. I'm so used to putting them on my but cheeks though 😆
