Evening lovely ladies,
What happens when we reach the max licenced dose of oestrogen 100 m patches . I started four years ago on 50 patches and then this last year up to 75mc. My symptoms again are returning. What happens when the 100 m patches no longer work or is it just a case of the optimal dose?

You can have more. Your gp may not prescribe more but you can ask for a referral to a menopause clinic where they can.

Sorry to hear this, I can feel the heat.
I used to need 100mcg.
Those flushes are unbelievable until you have experienced them.
I used to look forward to meno - no periods, until it happened, it wreaked havoc.
I remember a friend touching me and saying I felt warm.
Getting flustered used to make me flush, and the sweats - if I didn't have a fan, I would have had to have my sheets washed daily.
I never went beyond 100mcg, I think it's quality of life, with regards to oestrogen.
I don't know what else it does, apart from cool you down, and take away IBS, maybe someone can educate me?
Good luck in getting on a dose that kills your symptoms, but, beware, oestrogen feeds fibroids, I have some of those little buggers, but I am now only on 25mcg, as the large amount of oestrogen made me bleed.
Don't let that put you of though, I guess there are women on big doses who didn't bleed and women on small doses who did. I bled on 50mcg.
I think I still spot on 25mcg - it's hard to tell if the pad stains are brown or pinkish brown as I can get neurotic about bleeds as I was one of the unlucky ones, no cancer though, thankfully.

Thank you both for your quick replies. I hope i can settle at this dose. I do have a couple of fibrioda also. But hopefully mirena coil will help them x

Hi
This is exactly what has happened to me I’m on the max 100 mcg patches oestrodot the docs wouldn’t prescribe any more so I asked to be referred to meno clinic in December . I was getting really bad anxiety and hot all the time even though I’m usually cold. I phoned go again recently and was told although it was discussed that I was to be referred it wasn’t actually done as you can imagine I was fuming so I took it into. MY own hands and as I had plenty of oestrogel left from previous prescriptions I added 1/2 a pump and guess what 24 hrs later my anxiety disappeared.
I have since been in contact with doctors I had to fill out what they call an e consult online form to start the referral all over again, as eventually I will run out of gel and I also get another symptom which is unnervingly I am aware of my breathing I know this sounds silly but you don’t notice this normally do you unless your excercising I can breathe ok but I feel like I’m holding my breath if that makes sense.
Do you think you need more oestrogen ?

Hello
My GP says oestrogen feeds fibroids, however mine are small and I was on 100mcg - I cannot remember for how long, I am sorry.

Hi Dandilion
Yes that is true however I have one small fibroid and it hasn’t grown and I’ve been on hrt for ten years I believe the mire a coil stops them from growing.

I am under a private menopause consultant who has gradually upped my estrogen to 200mg patches. And it has made the world of difference to me. I was told that often women who go through an early menopause (me) need more estrogen. Hopefully your body won't need such a dramatic dose but it sounds like your dosage isn't quite right yet

Jennijx, I'm heartened to see that one can go up to 200 mg patches - which I think would be equivalent to 8 pumps of estrogel. I've reached the NHS max dose of 4 pumps and am still not absorbing so am planning to increase so it's great to hear that that can make a big difference
-
Honestly I haven't felt this good in years. There is hope!xx
-
Jennijx, what do you take for progesterone ( or do you not?)
Thanks x

So glad to hear x

Utrogestran tablets - continuously so I don't have a bleed

And 100mg utrogestan controls 200mg oestrogen? Wow, I can’t even get the utrogestan to control 50mg without bleeding

I read that progesterone helps fibroids.
I have to stay on utrogestan as I cannot alter my prog dose, it's cross tolerant to the valium I am dependent on, which my psychiatrist prescribes.
Ladies who have been valium dependent, get kicked in the pants if they mess around with progesterone levels.
I would rather use the natural than synthetic also.

I think the breath thing makes sense if it's what happens to me occasionally.
During the night, I am awoken with the sudden need to breathe out - as if I have been holding my breath, it's pretty alarming.

Do you mean 200mcg, as oestrogen is measured in mcg?
200 is a massive dose, I cannot imagine the suffering you have gone through to need that.
I used to need 100cg, the flushes were unbearable.
I don't think people understand them until they experience them for themselves, I certainly never understood, I used to think menopause would be good, as it meant no periods.

Hi all just an update. I had to increase my oestrogen again by 1/2 Pump now making my dose 100 patches plus 1pump of gel. Been having anxiety again and feeling very hot although not flushes as such, I’ve still not been referred to a menopause clinic and cant believe how flippant the docs are about it😡 of course if I was male I would probably be referred by now!
I may have to go down the private route if I can’t get any joy.

Sorry if this is no good, have you tried any non hrt stuff for flushes.
