Title: But why???
Post by: BlueButterfly on April 04, 2019, 09:51:57 PM
I've been lurking but not too active lately. I had been feeling rather great honestly! More energy, anxiety pretty much gone...just life has been fine....
but now....I'm not having a great day. Some stupid things have come back. I don't know why or what is going on again.

My body is being weird again....well, just awful really. I thought it was allergies getting back again, but the tight throat and tingling mouth are back and I don't know why! My mother thinks maybe a pinched nerve in my neck. I'm worried outside of my mind that I have MS or something as if feels like I can't swallow the same or that my throat is closing up when this happens. I really just don't understand why this is coming back!?! I can't do it again....I can't feel like I'm slowly being choked again. I've been allergy tested TWICE and nothing is ever found. I just don't know anymore.....

None of this ever happened to me until last year when my whole body went haywire and nothing is the same anymore.

OMG Bluebutterfly, I could be you, the tight throat and buzzy tongue are back with me also.
Buzzing/burning tongue hung about for about 3 years, disappeared for about 6 months, replaced by buzzing legs. Now have both, I just don't understand what is going on.
FFS I just don't get it. My calve and leg muscles also hurt, anyone else had that?😡🤬

I just wish they could tell me why!!

And yes, my leg muscles hurt randomly. Calves, thighs...I get weird bubble popping like spasms at times as well.
I had a random cramp in my forearm yesterday as well....it gets so old!

I haven't slacked off that much on my vitamins. It's just so frustrating because I finally felt 'normal' again, honestly better than normal and then this all starts coming back. I had a break down when hubby got home from work...just couldn't stop crying. I hardly worry about much anymore but the idea of MS or something...that's hard. And it could be nothing more than this stupid hormone mess!  :angryfire:

Bluebutterfly,
You have described the bubble popping feeling perfectly. I know this is a long shot as GP already said it can't be but do you use vagifem.  My leg problems started just after I was prescribed it. I also feel if the skin on my lower legs is tight a bit like sunburn.
I am trying to ignore it, but it's really getting me down.
Going for GP check up this morning I'll mention it all again.

I have allergic rhinitis which improves when we do a deep clean of our bedroom and lounge  ::).  I always know when we've been lazy as my nose itches, I wake in the night with tongue scratching the roof of my mouth .......... anti-histamine at night helps.  As does hoovering.  Thoroughly  :D

Aches and pains are common during menopause.  Cramp can be eased by adding more salt to your over all diet.

Jill, yes I get that feeling in my skin as well in my calves, like the skin is being pulled tight as if they are swelling. (They aren't, I measure all the time). No, I don't use vagifem or anything with estrogen in it. I am told I need to avoid it right now. I do use progesterone which has actually been great for me.

Stellajane, yes, I think allergies might be contributing but it's very frustrating because allergy meds are not strong enough. I have to stack them to get any kind of relief (24-hour allergy meds, Benadryl as well and maybe even a nasal spray...that's the next thing to try). And the worst thing is I've been checked twice now for allergies and nothing shows up. None of the tree pollens or anything. But it's better in the winter.

Thanks CLKD, I don't think I could add much more salt to my diet though.

Okay, so, after calming down yesterday I remembered reading before about zinc and burning tongue (tingly, prickly). So I took a zinc tab last night, the slow dissolving ones you suck on because that's what I have. Feels a bit better today. I will try it for a few days. Also less noticable when I am eating, chewing gun or very distracted.

I have silent reflux according ent. Well the first symptoms swallowing issues. Odd taste mouth and inflamed throat. So two years and still not sorted. Muscular tension upper back and shoulders. I find wheat bags help relax muscles but a short term solution. I thought I had allergic rhinitis. I had pain in sinuses etc. That's got better but spent masses on meds, rinses. I believe all my horrible never ending symptoms are meno. It's been 9 years so I'm praying for the other door the one that feels awesome or so I'm lead to believe. My gp said around 40 your body will change. I never questioned it. Anyway we cant assume it's all meno. X

Not long back from GP. He was great, actually listened to me about the buzzing.
Did ask if it could be magnesium deficiency, he was very honest and said he does not know much about nutrition and had not heard of buzzy/fizzing if deficient.
I am to have blood tests for vitamin/mineral deficiency next week.
Did make me feel a bit better as he was not worried about anything serious, is thinking a problem with disk in lower back. Gave me very low dose amitriptiline for nerve feelings.
I still think it could be memo related, but I'll wait and see what the tests say.
I did walk there and back, about 4 miles in total and it didn't kill me, so may be nothing too bad then👍🥳

I've got this now, left leg calf is awful. Pain and heat. Been checked for DVT last week and all ok. Tingling, pins and needles all over body. Throat and roof of mouth feels constricted, kind of swollen. Palps stomach driving me mad too.

Oh angel1964, I am so sorry you feel so bad. I also sometimes feel my throat and the back of my tongue are swollen. The first few times I thought I was choking. I now know it will pass.
I find boots expert dry mouth spray helps relieve the feeling.
I also find soaking feet in a bowl of hot water with Epsom salts relaxes my calves,
I have recently used my cool gel pillow under my lower legs in bed at night and find that helps.
I will update in a couple of weeks when I get the blood results on vitamin/mineral tests.
Hope you feel better❤️💕

I hate to read so many having the same issues but it is a relief at the same time. I know I've read much of this can be related to menopause the hormone mess but it is still hard to wrap my head around it most of the time. Hormones wreak havoc on our bodies.

Jillm- sounds like the GP was at least helpful. Hope you find some answers.

I know I shouldn't worry about MS. I mean, I don't have balance or walking issues, vision issues, speech, etc. Just this random seemingly unrelated issues.

Angel1964 - Same leg symptoms have led me to have several DVT checks on my right leg...only leg I ever have long issues with. Left leg will give me pains and stuff sometimes but they don't last for days.

So, I guess I had forgotten...but I have some minor scoliosis...chiropractor told me, mother reminded me I had issues when I was like 11. Seriously how could I forget that? Anyways, chiro thinks that is contributing to the neck/shoulder pain (as it is causing some minor degeneration in my neck-he said was quite common to see with scoliosis) and my right leg pain/nerve issues/twisting. And the rapid weight loss I had that resulted in rapid muscle loss just aggravated everything. I do hope this mouth tingling is just that...nerve pinch and allergies combining at the wrong time. It is better today. Not sure if the zinc or less stress or what. Woke up in knots though...shoulder and back. Trying to work those out.

We evolved upright  :o  >:( not the best posture to maintain, think of the Chimps - rarely upright even when running.

Over the counter pain relief can ease symptoms.  As can brisk walking as it encourages good posture and good breathing.  Which reminds me, make sure that your footwear is suitable, if I stopped every woman with bad shoes and explained how it can affect the whole spine from head to coccxx, I would be very rich also the same when sitting: typing, driving, lazing ........

As oestrogen levels drop muscles may become lax = aches and pains!

I've got the major weight loss too. I'm eating 💩 loads but it's falling off me with the stress of partner finishing with me in January over anxiety and nowhere to live. I've got my dog to try and keep me sane. But even she's sad. My emotions have shut down as cannot cry at all. But I am on citalopram and this medication can make that worse. I do think some of my symptoms are hormonal but majority are anxiety/depression. I hope you get sorted pretty quickly as all of these things that rear their ugly heads just send us back down again. Big big hugs xxx

Well, things seem to be back to normal now. Not sure if it was the zinc or I had a pinched nerve that resolved.  My allergies are still awful though so now back to 2 to 3 different  allergy meds to manage my non-existent allergies that are just in my head (ironically between march/April and October  ::)) Just still a bit upset about that whole mess with the specialist.

Angel1964, I hope you get feeling better soon! At least you are still eating. Getting the nutrition will help. (My anxiety got so bad I couldn't eat much at all-tight throat made me feel like I couldn't swallow.  I totally could but my mind was telling me otherwise )  :bighug:

Look what I found re tingling limbs. Will show this to my GP next time.

Tingling limbs

This uncomfortable sign might also come with burning or tingling in your limbs.

Hormone issue: changes in estrogen

This symptom is much more common in women. Many report feeling tingling in their extremities, especially around menopause. The Australian Menopause Centre says hormone fluctuations, especially changes in estrogen levels, are to blame for this uncomfortable feeling. In addition to that pins-and-needles feeling no one wants, you may also experience numbness or a burning or crawling sensation.

I hope this helps relieve some of our anxiety👍

Fab that you posted this. Thank you. xx

That is a bit reassuring to read.

Today my right leg feels like the skin is pulling in the calf muscle again all the way to the front of the leg. I think it definitely has something to do with nerves. It is frustrating because I don't know how to relieve it. I don't want it to get worse or become a permanent thing.

Hi Bluebutterfly,

I know exactly how you feel. I started taking the very low dose amitriptyline on Friday and my legs have felt much better, not completely gone but better. Until today skin on left calve feels as you describe.
Where it is nice to have some relief I am concerned about masking the symptoms & not getting to the bottom of the problem.

Today at work I felt a bit out of it and now completely washed out, feel like I could go to bed. GP did say the tablets could make me sleepy.
I am holding onto the blurb I found about estrogen, and hope it is all memo related. Still to have vitamin & minerals checked later in the week, see how that goes.
I have run out of magnesium pills, will get some tomorrow, wonder if that's why strange skin feeling back.
Decided to have a soak in an Epsom salts bath.
Hope you feel better.
Jill

Definitely a nerve issue. It's almost like the sciatica I used to have but doesn't hurt really. Just odd sensations. Certain positions make it worse others a bit better. Mine probably got worse due to lots of physical work over the weekend. Trying to do exercises to relieve the nerve pressure. Might need to use the tens unit I have.

The mouth sensations are gone. A couple days of zinc took care of that.

I miss my old body some days. It wasn't perfect and had it's issues but this new one and it's many new issues isn't fun.

I don't know how you feel today, but massage therapy?  I had an issue with calves (they felt locked in permanent muscular tension and I couldn't properly walk up stairs), nerve tinglings, 'frozen shoulder' with pins and needles in my arm that meant I could only lie on one side of my body and would wake up most nights in agony.  Anyway, I saw a sports massage therapist at work, who's got 20 years of anatomy experience, and after a few treatments the symptoms went away.  She said it was just because I'd lived in my body for a long time and bits had been stressed and worn.  What I also noticed, though, was that my tight throat, inability to swallow and sense that someone was sitting on my chest (which I'd always attributed to my chronic anxiety) also lessened a lot.

Hi everyone,
Hope you are all well.
Called for blood results today, receptionist said GP noted all normal.
Well that’s good for kidneys, thyroid, vit D, magnesium, vit B12,iron etc, no further forward on the buzzing legs.
However, I have been taking what I now think is a better quality vit D and magnesium, calcium supplements, things improved, also now have insoles to help as I think I may have fallen arches.
I’ll see how things go.
If it continues to improve, I’ll need to work out which is helping, supplements or insoles.
If things get worse again, then I think it is low estrogen

Well, things had been a bit better, but down hill again last couple of days.
My legs have been buzzing again especially my left calve, tight muscle and bubble popping feeling. Also today aching lower back, ankles, hands and feet.
Feel really rubbish, just want to go to bed.
Skin on lower legs and lower arms feels like sunburn again and a bit spikey.
I am so fed up and panicking again.
Sorry for going on and on about the same thing.
Hope you are all feeling ok

Jillm,
Sorry to hear you are having problems again. I was really hoping you had found something that worked.

I have leg aches again, right leg as always. Feels heavy and a bit awkward sometimes. Little tingly and achy. Just got back from a trip so not sure if I just sat wrong or what. Went to the doctor today and got a referral for a neurologist. Not really sure who else to try right now. Just need to wait a couple of weeks.

Sure wish my body would work like it used to. It wasn't perfect but it was better than this.

Bluebutterfly,

Thanks so much for your reply. I also thought things had improved. It really does seem to be in a cycle.
Seems to calm down, not gone completely, but bearable, then back to horrible strange feelings in legs. Also buzzing tongue back.
I think I need to bite the bullet and ask for HRT. Going on holiday in 3 weeks, will wait will We get back. Problem is I have no idea what to ask for
Back to panic over some horrible neurological decease. Need to calm down, just making things worse😡

Have you tried zinc for the buzzing tongue? It really helps mine. I use the zinc dissolving tabs.

Yes, I worry about a neurological disease too. Very much, even though my symptoms don't totally fit (like everything else). I'm hoping it's just some weird pinched nerve issues especially since this series of problems started happening after sitting in a vehicle for awhile.

Sorry I'm in the US. I just got them at a local store. They are normally used for colds but it's what I had around when I first tried them and it helped so much. Sorry I can't be of much help.
