Title: Leg and feet cramp
Post by: Angel1964 on December 19, 2018, 09:23:43 AM
Does anyone get leg and foot cramp? Been on hrt Femseven Conti 6 weeks. Have started get feet cramps at night, calf cramps but not every night, and outer thigh hurts on right leg today. Have been using magnesium oil spray every morning and night for sleep/anxiety. I did read that if you don't get enough magnesium your body wants more and can cause cramps??  Or is it the HRT? Was on it in June for 16 weeks but came off it and didn't have any cramps then

I used to get terrible foot/toe cramps, even on hrt so used to use tablet form magnesium which sorted it

It's weird because I've not taken the tablets for quite a while and the cramps haven't returned so far so shows it's probably one of those meno symptoms that comes and goes x

Lack of salt in the over-all diet.

I have bought Magnesium Glycinate so will start that as heard that form is good for anxiety too. Thank you xx

Hi Angel
Yes I think it`s an hrt side effect for me - I am on femseven sequi and have been getting almost nightly foot cramps (not terrible - goes away in seconds) and the odd calf one - which is damn painful. Don`t think it`s salt for me as I always put it on certain foods (chips!!! Spuds!!!) I don`t consciously have a low salt intake and it only started when I went onto hrt.  it`s the only side effect I`m getting so far so will grin and bear it except when I`m gripping my calf and howling in agony at 3am lol.

Ah thank you. I didn't get it when on hrt in June for 16 weeks so found it strange now. Thank you xxx

Potassium rich foods are good for cramp. A daily banana might help. Potassium is also found in spinach, oranges and avocados. A magnesium supplement might be a good thing, too.

Thank you :) I make sure I have a banana everyday. And try and have veg etc each night. Would magnesium glycinate work better than magnesium oil spray? xx

Grandma always told us when we had cramp that we needed more salt.  When MinL had a lot of problems her GP told her to cut salt from her diet, within weeks she had dreadful cramp in her hands.  It was a while B4 she asked her GP about it and a blood test showed that she was so low that she needed hospital admission and the Consltnat wondered how Mum was still upright!  She won't 'take the advice' from me  >:(.  Being that low almost killed her.

We add salt to boiling potatoes; over roasties with olive oil; over pork dripping; on stalks of celery.

I always got it in my feet when diving into water .......... I would have to exit immediately after which, feet would be fine when I got back in.  The pool was heated.

Looks like I need to up my salt. I add sea salt to potatoes when boiling, but nothing else. And rarely put it over food. I do have a bag of pom bear crisps each day but doubt whether they would be suffice lol.

Sorry but I don't know which is best, spray or oral. I'm sure someone on the forum will know. I have magnesium glycinate capsules, but found that taking the recommended dose of 3 x 133 mg capsules per day gave me the runs, so at the moment only take one. As I haven't got to go anywhere over Christmas I might try upping it to two and see what happens!

I get cramp in my cold feet all the time.
My feet are always cold, and cramp up at least once a day, if not more.
I hate it when I'm in bed, just getting comfy and snuggly, then I move my
feet slightly and bam, the cramp gets me! I'm too lazy to get out, so I have to move
about trying to get rid of it, or trying to warm em up! Lol

Don't get it much in my legs, just the rotten feet........lol

Obviously this doesn't prevent leg aches/cramp etc, but my all time favourite from the medicine cabinet helps when cramp or leg aches strike...vics vaporub. I love it. I rub it on my hands and inhale it for headaches and I use it on feet and legs for muscle aches xx

Ohhh yes StellaJane, I've got a small one in one of the kitchen drawers.
I'm going to try that, then shove it out in the middle of the night when it's cold.
My feet are always cold, I don't like wearing socks in bed, in fact , I'm going now to get it
And try it. My toes are freezing......lol 👣

Agathac, I know rubbing vicks vabour rub into your feet and wearing socks over the top, when in bed, stops a cough, well, supposed to. People use it on they're kids feet when they've got colds n coughs. 👣👣

Oh blimey, should have told CLKD about that, she's had a cough for a while now.......lol 🙀

I had a friend at primary school whose Mum used Vicks on her regularly. So long since I lost touch with her but I still think of her when I smell it.

Mmmm, it's so nice isn't it..?
You can buy a candle too now, I was looking at it in savers.
Only trouble is, I'd probably set the bloody bedroom on fire. 🔥 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
So I had to think twice, and thought best not to buy it...😹

I agree with the wooden floor.
I usually walk around with flip flops on, but I'm so fed up with the cramp
in my toes!
So, I've took to wearing a pair of fluffy slippers, which seem to help, until I get into bed,
then the cold sets in, and cramp again. 😪
I used the water bottle idea last night, I nipped down outa bed, and filled it from the kettle,
but stupid me, made the water too hot and I couldn't put my feet on it in bed! 🙀🙀
So I went to sleep with my feet just by it, I could feel the warmth radiating off it, it was lovely. And off to sleep I went, until early hours and the bloody thing got chucked out on the floor. Lol .It goes quite cold in our bedroom because I turn the heating off in there about 8.30pm and there's wooden floors in the bedrooms, so my feet get really cold. Plus, I leave the window open all night, so a hot water bottle was lovely. 👍🏻

And no Jaypo, my OH goes mad if I touch him with my freezing feet, he hates it, but then he's always moaning about how cold the bedroom is when he goes to bed, he says ‘it's like the artic in here.' ❄️
Lol. But I hate a hot stuffy bedroom, and he soon gets warm with the duvet over him......well, when he's stopped shivering........lol  😹😹😹

Yep, I forgot about the fan, it's on every night, and I don't need it on now,
I don't have hot flushes, lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's just that I'm used to the noise of it, can't sleep if it's not on.

I know, I know, I'm a weirdo!  😂🤪🤪🤪

To keep feet warm one should begin at the thigh area.  Trouble is, we sleep naked  ::).  DH tells me that my feet aren't cold even when they feel it.  Apparently I scuttled down the bed in the night and took the covers with me  :D.  I was cold all over even with the lleccy blanket on  ::) and curled up. Must have gone deep as the night went on  ;D

You sleep completely naked CLKD?

I couldn't. I'm scared something might crawl up my bum, (or somewhere else,)
when I'm asleep, it's bad enough sleeping in just my knickers and a little cami top,
as soon as I get a tickle, I'm down the bed looking to see if there's anything there lurking, in the dark, waiting to jump on me.......😂🤣😂🤣

Omg,Jill you do make me laugh, I remember bolting upright at about 4am coz I thought something touched my leg,the duvet being shaken out to within an inch of it's feathery life, scanning every inch of the bedroom & all the while my husband just lying there starkers, saying, are we done?probably his mega hairy leg touched me 😂
Cripes, can things crawl up your bum? 3 pairs of knickers on tonight then

But I ent taking any chances......lol.
Ever since there was a big hairy spider 🕷 with a baulb hanging of its backend,
living in my bedroom, behind a picture,........oh nooo, knickers it is for me! 🙀🙀
Anyway, I just can't go commando, don't feel right......😉

Oooooow,I don't do commando either, hubby does but I couldn't bear looking at my jelly belly and spaniel ear boobs flopping at either side of me every morning, awww, doesn't that sound lovely, what a catch I am

Spaniel ear boobs........

Omg, mine look like deflated footballs ⚽️, hanging on the mattress.! 😬😬😮

Anyway, I thought this thread was about leg and foot cramps, 😂😂
Not our beautiful boobs....lol.

My feet actually are much better in bed when I've got that hot water bottle.
It's bloody lovely.
However, I did have a bad cramp in my toes today when I was ironing, then again when I was sitting at the dining table eating my dinner, 👣 I have also bought some slipper socks, with all fur inside, which make a big difference.   🧦

Crikey Jill,we'd be dangerous on a night out,men wouldn't be able to resist us,you with your cozy slippers and deflated footballs and me face planting off my stilettos, whilst flappy boobs blew in the wind
Right cramps, someone on here (sorry can't remember) told me about magnesium tablets which I bought and not had cramps in my calves since

I do get a chuckle from the threads some days ladies.  Anyway to cramps......I haven't used HRT but do get calf and shin cramps in the night. Not every day but I do end up limping the next morning. I have found Muscle Rescue really good. It is a sponge applicator and it really does calm it down very quickly the next day. Feels lovely and warm too
