I am considering changing my forum display name. I know others have done this at times.
Does it generally work or does it cause confusion and misunderstandings?
-
Hi babyjane, have to say it has confused me when I've realised that someone has a different name when looking at old posts. I'm thinking of Honeybun and that generation of posters. When Cubagirl left her recent goodbye message as Joyce I was confused. But heyho, if you fancy a change, why not?!
I suppose we all of us remember snippets about other posters and who may be able to offer advice etc. I've been PMed a number of times by members asking for particular advice relating in some way to my posts. I've realised that some members don't always wish to make their questions public. What's making you feel you'd like to change? x
-
Its just a thought, I may not if it is going to confuse things.
babyjane is a childhood name and this year I have been working to step away from my childhood. However it is just a name, it does not define me :)
-
When I left, my name reverted back to original. Same happened when Honeybun left. No confusion was meant. ::) However, you're only changing name, not leaving. You can change your name & tell us if you wish. What do you fancy?
-
cubagirl, I wondered whether when members left their real names were exposed which was a worry. I was really confused as to why on the older posts I was referring to, i.e. Honeybun et al, posters had two names. How does that happen? Had they left and then returned? Actually, whatever happened to Honeybun, she seemed like a really nice lady? x
-
I don't want this question to lead to a postmortem of why older members left. That was not my intention.
The way I understand it your original username does not change but you can change your forum display name. If you leave, your original username shows and any display name you have changed to disappears.
I think I'll leave it as it is or this thread is going to digress and cause upset. . As I said, it's only a name, it's not really me :)
Actually I quite like it when someone refers to me as 'BJ', sort of like a nickname. I never had a nickname. I will leave it as it is.
-
Honeybun is doing fine ER. :)
Don't feel upset BJ! That wasn't what I was intending. Sorry if that's how it came over. Yes you're right though, when you leave it reverts back to your original name.
-
Oh dear, it was an innocent question, certainly don't want to cause an upset! ???
BJ sounds American! Like a cool character on American Graffiti! x
-
I know you didn't mean anything cubagirl and elizabethrose  I've seen how these things can sometimes escalate and I didn't want to be making waves :ola:
-
We register a user name which remains even if we choose to alter what members see us as. I altered my original user name as I realised that I could be identified by it ::) but should I go 'black' then it will revert.

??? ??? Why do you want to change your forum name babyjane (if you don't mind me asking)?
Cazikins.

;) ;) I remember your original user name CLKD, I think you changed it a few times before settling on CLKD ::) ::).
I deleted my account once several years ago but didn't change my name - I had no reason to :) :)
-
hello cazikins, I was thinking about it because babyjane is a name from my childhood which I am moving away from but I realise it is only a name and doesn't define me. I don't need to run away from it and it would be confusing so I changed my mind about it.
-
hello babyjane, good for you - it does confuse me when members change their name.
-
BJ or babyjane! For us, your name does carry any connotations, other than the name of a lovely member of the forum. And you were always lovely, regardless of what those around you told you. They tried to impose their version of the story of you on you, but they couldn't see the beautiful you. That was their problem. Your name is the name of someone who not only has survived, but is starting to flourish. A name to celebrate!
-
How kind of you Ju Ju, thank you so very much x
-
Couldn't you "develop" your username? So we know it's you? Be something like Babyjanekicksass? You are then showing your childhood who's boss...
-
-
Haha, brilliant, ancient runner! Let's all get creative! x
-
I think I had better change my name to Girl-who-had-some-dahlias-but-the-snails-ate-them-all.
But if you don't know me in real life, you would never know ;)
-
I think I might have to call you GWHSDBTSATA! Bit of a mouthful? Now what could I do with my forum name? No one calls me that anymore.
-
JuJu-on-that-beat? Think of this whenever I see your name.

No, my mind is thick as mud today. Ahhhhhhh, penny just dropped. Good one Dulcy ;D
Perhaps I will follow the example of cheryl and adele and be just jane. Nooooooo, that's 10 times worse!!!!!!
I'll go with dulcy and stay babyjane.
My name is babyjane and I am a menopausal woman :)

No, sorry, I don't. ??? Today it has been Menopause 5 Brain 0. ::) Can someone with more brain cells still functioning please explain?

I believe that our dulciana plays the organ.
Dulciana is an organ stop, typically with small conical open metal pipes.

Yup! It is indeed, Cazikins. Are you a bit of an organ buff, too?? :)
-
I'm feeling smug, cos I got your joke within after a few seconds delay, Dulciana! The clue was knowing you play the organ if course!
-
:P although I know that dulciana plays the organ I didn't get the connection ……… :thankyou: 4 the explanation ::)
-
Thanks for bearing with me, folks! ;D I'm thinking, too, that my forum name definitely sounds a lot better than Faggotto - which is another from the same source!
-
:o Yes, I'd stick with Ducliana if I were you!
I did know you played the organ, so I can't excuse my slowness by ignorance. Wondering if I should abbreviate my forum name to Dotty. It seems increasingly appropriate. ::)
-
You're not ignorant, Dorothy! There are hundreds of things that other people do, that I don't know the words and phrases for. It's more a case of me being a bit obsessive! ;)

;D ;D ;D No & I read on here that you play the organ so I googled it. ::)

Hello ladies.
Occasionally I read forum posts to my husband, especially if I am planning to reply and of course I often mention the author's name. I am so used to quoting unusual titles that they seem normal to me but he pulls a face sometimes. For this reason I really hope someone chooses to be called Faggotto, it'll make my day!
Btw don't worry about having your details revealed or discussed, I just like to remind my husband that there are women who are similar to me, we have no clue who you really are. All secrets are safe!
Take care all.
K.
