Tragic, but what on earth has happened to it ?
It's just.....gone.
All seems a little bit fishy somehow. If it was terrorists then they don't hide the fact afterwards.
Just can't understand how it can just disappear without trace.

Some plane expert said yesterday that modern planes do not suffer from catastrophic failure. There are no beacons sending signals. If it blew up, there is no debris. Very strange. It just vanished. If it had been hijacked it would have appeared on radar somewhere. Maybe a Bermuda Triangle phenomenon. Who knows.
-
Apparently one that fell out of the air from France a few years ago simply disappeared until debris floated to the surface nearly a week later. Eventually the Black Box was recovered. If it had been a bomb then there would have been fragments by now ……… a hi-jack, flying lower than radar?
-
Maybe know more by this weekend. They've widened the search area.
-
It is also supposed that the 2 Iranians had stolen Passports in order to seek Asylum :-\
-
Now saying it turned westerly before disappearing from radar. Mystery thickens.
-
and it flew low for over an hour after changing direction. How great if it is holed up somewhere on some out of the way airstrip - unlikely I know - but it must be what the relatives are hoping.

The thing that puzzles me most is why the pilot did not radio something....anything. If he turned back was it hi-jacked or what. It kind of means that it did not just blow up in mid air.
They also said that even if there had been a catastrophic loss of power from both engines the pilot can glide for about 80 miles. Again no radio contact.
It's the biggest mystery. The black box stops transmitting in a month.....so the clock is ticking.

Really weird.
-
Anyone remember those in the Andes - some survived …….
-
Fingers crossed it has landed somewhere......though they are telling the relatives to prepare for the worst
-
They have said its almost impossible to fly a plane that size low enough to avoid radar. Almost as impossible as landing something so big without it being seen by someone.

Hubby who is an aeroplane enthusiast ::) says that it would not have been able to fly low enough to avoid detection, due to its sheer size. Somebody, somewhere would have spotted it.
-
The mystery deepens.....

Anyone remember those in the Andes - some survived …….
One of my hubbies fave films and one of the few books hes read ALIVE I think it was called?
-
They've been trying out possible flights in flight sim. One pilot says if it turned west, as suggested it could be about 3000 miles into Indian ocean. His suggestion includes the possibility that cabin suddenly de-pressurised, which would cause unconsciousness. Pilots would then not have been able to message for help.
-
Lots of plausible theories out there.
-
'Alive!' - that's it, a book every one should read ……… ;)
-
It reminds me of the TV programme called Lost.

Lost, lost me after second series. ;D

I just can't help thinking about the families still waiting. Seems to be occupying too much of my thinking time at the minute.

-
It is always the waiting that is the worst, one can't deal with emotions etc. until there is information :'( - I would be climbing the walls, it was bad enough when our friend was 'missing' following the Phillipine issues. He also flies from Malaysia to China - and back :-\
-
Some scattered debris has been discovered on plane's flight path. Could be nothing of course.
-
I can't believe that it hasn't been found yet.
-
Maybe at the bottom of the Indian Ocean. They say it's very deep. Though why it changed course & things were switched off is very suspicious.
Must be so hard for all the relatives.
-
Bird strike?
-
Not at 35000 feet!
Bramble
-
:o they were *that* high :o
-
They were flying at the normal cruising altitude CLKD. Some vultures attain 30,000 feet though and geese regularly migrate at around 20,000 feet.

Apparantly it was spotted going over the maldives...

I can't see how they will ever find out what really happened, it will probably be the subject of endless conspiracy theories and documentaries.
-
I think it just went into the sea and will be found but all this waiting without closure is heartbreaking for the families ::)
-
Winterose I agree :'(
-
Did anyone see Kay Burley from Sky news yesterday? Should have been shot for way she was practically accosting poor relatives to get a story. Shocking behaviour.
Even if the debris, they've detected, belongs to the plane, speculation will continue as to why it ended up there. May never know the full story, though some reports say the Airline company know more than they're letting on.
-
I agree cubagirl I saw it too on Sky News.
It goes without saying that the whole world is in sympathy for the relatives but that behaviour is in excusable.
-
I felt so uncomfortable watching it, I actually switched channels. No need to be so aggressive to get a story. I don't particularly like her style at the best of times.
-
At last debris is being seen. Because of the area and due to bad weather it will be a long time before any is recovered. At least it is known that it is un-likely to find any survivors :'(
-
Retrieving the debris may prove difficult though, due to currents & weather conditions.
-
<sigh>
-
Another 1 missing :'(
-
They think this one was weather related though as pilot had asked to climb to 38,000 to clear the thunderstorms. Contact was then lost. Malaysians had a tough year with air accidents. Also a ferry accident between Greece & Italy.
-
Immigrants on the ferry?
-
Not sure, but lots of cars & lorries which also caught fire.
-
It still amazes me that with all the technology we have now, a plane can just disappear and they have no idea what has happened.
-
Immigrants on the ferry?
Why are you asking this question about the fire on the ferry?
-
well lots of people fleeing to Italy travel on ferries ……….. many are illegally trying to land
-
And the ferries are old and dangerously over crowded.
Don't think that was the case though.

Thanks Honeybun having seen the news it appears that the Ferry is a 'daily' event that caught fire in very bad weather :-\

So what? I see no relevance to these remarks.
It seems the rescue mission is ongoing at the scene of the ferry fire. To me it is completely irrelevant why people were on the ferry and whence they originated. I just hope no lives are lost.
-
The ferry is in the Adriatic off Corfu.
"The ship is owned by the Italian company VISEMAR de Navigazione and chartered to Greek ferry firm ANEK Lines SA. It runs on a route which in the summer is popular with tourists heading to the southern Greek mainland"
Hope no lives are lost, its been a sad time for too many this year.
-
131 rescued so far. Many stranded in lifeboats. Weather there is pretty bad too.
-
There are over 400 people on board - hopefully more will be taken off. Apparently all mobile communication has been blocked to enable emergency telephone only. Awful, awful, awful …...
-
Being removed by helicopter 2 at a time. Going to take an awfully long time to get them all off at that rate.
-
:( ……. thank goodness we have rescue services :medal:
-
As to it being irrelevant......so many times we hear of overcrowded ships trying to make their way to another country. It quite easy to come to the conclusion that this might have been what was happening.
Don't think the comment was irrelevant before the full facts were known.
Dreadful thing to happen but hopefully there will be a successful rescue under very difficult circumstances.

They've now spotted bodies in the sea near to the flight path off the stricken plane. It's tragic, especially at this time of year, but at least the relatives will have some form of closure - if only the ones from the Malaysian Airlines plane could have some answers. Not knowing must be horrendous :'(
-
Black box has been found. Perhaps now some answers will emerge to find out why it disappeared :-\
-
Pieces have been found which may be parts of the plane that disappeared :-\
-
So sad, but at least it could give a sense of closure to the passengers' family and friends? My partner works in aviation and as soon as he saw the wing piece on the news, he guessed it was from a 777. :(
-
I wonder how 'off course' it will turn out to have flown, if this is, indeed, parts of the missing plane?
-
A long way off course I would say, seeing as it was supposed to be flying north from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, and the part has been found way down off Africa. The mystery of why it ended up where it did will probably never be solved until they find the flight recorders, if they find them. At least they may be able to establish how the plane crashed into the sea from the part, but what it was actually doing in that region will still be a mystery.
If this is off MH370 (and it seems to have been pretty much confimed it is) the one thing that has been confirmed is that they are still searching in the correct area of the Indian Ocean. It's just that the area is so huge that, as one official said, "It's not just a case of finding a needle in a haystack. We haven't even found the haystack yet".
-
Yet another one gone down :'( - left Paris for Egypt this morning :-[

The times we live in ??? :'(

Crashed near a Greek Island :-\
