Earliest ever. Usually manage until end of September. But I refuse to freeze. :)
-
Ended up turning it on this afternoon. I have a bit of a cold and did not sleep well last night so that always makes me cold.
It's usually about this time it goes on but we get colder temperatures up here.

Yep. 2 weeks ago I decided that it was time to have a Warm Bathroom ;)
Sunday was drizzly all day so put it on at 10.45, knowing that when DH returned from his trip he would require a warm shower ...... and it went on this afternoon .......... and we're going *camping* ::) :-\
-
This will be the third night I've put the heat on but only around 7pm. It's fine in the day when you're busy but gets chilly when you sit down.
-
I can't bear getting out of bed in the morning and it's cold :o

I never feel the cold in the morning. Have not got a clue why but when I get up summer and winter the back door gets opened and the dog and I potter about.
Hubby gets up and the first words are.." It's cold in here ".
I feel the cold for the rest of the day but first thing I need fresh air.

Put mine on this evening.

I always have on layers in the winter. When our two were little and complained of the cold they were promptly told to put on an extra jumper.
DD & her partner have most horrendous storage heated system in their rented house. They bought a dimplex electric heater this year for when baby arrived. More heat off that and had benefit of switching on/off as required.
-
.My heating is going on at about 7pm and off again at 10pm. It's really too expensive. My heating bills are now the most expensive bills of the month. I pay by monthly direct debit and intend to call my provider to see if I am on the best tariff.
I have to heat the house in the really cold months as OH is diabetic and that means his circulation is not great. He has permanently cold hands and feet and it gets very uncomfortable for him.
I agree there will be a lot of fuel poverty this year......yet the government can afford to spend billions in foreign aid. They should look nearer to home.

We've just forked out for a wireless room thermostat for our heating. We have radiators with their own thermostats that would pump up so much heat, that we would end up way too hot. So hoping the thermostat will save us some money as promised as it is more background heating. That, together with the new digital smart meter we can see how much it's costing on a daily basis. I tend to ignore the meter, but can see how it would possibly be beneficial to those on a tight budget.

I think the key to a cosy house is insulation. We have max. insulation in loft, we have full double glazing and we have cavity wall insulation. We are a 4 bed detached house but it does get loads of sun as it has big windows so that really warms the rooms.
We have oil central heating which is very effective and we also have solar panels. The solar panels provide us with free daytime electricity and I believe our electricity bills are about £28 a month. Haven't had heat on in mornings yet but when it gets really cold we have it on from 6.30 to 9.30 am. Then it's off all day until 4 pm. If it gets nippy in the day I put on a convector heater in the room I'm using (free daytime electricity). I can't bear being cold.
-
We couldn't get the free loft insulation as we have down lights. No cavity wall insulation as house timber framed. However, we do have double glazing, which has some sort of gas between the panes, which heats up on sunny days, not that we get that many up here. ;D We got a new energy efficient boiler 3 years ago and use energy efficient light bulbs - don't you just hate them though! ::) We've done as much as we can, except for the solar panels. Hubby reckons it would take about 15-20 years before we'd see much benefit from them, plus he thinks they are an eyesore! We face east/west. Most folk by us, who have panels, face north/south and have on south facing roofs.
-
We have had ours on and also the log fire, but today the boiler has packed in!!!!! Why oh why does this happen just as you need it!
-
Sod's law. Seldom break down when it's hot, do they?
-
Ours is on and off again. For a couple of weeks at the end of March we were able to switch it off after breakfast. The wind however, is SO cold!
-
Maybe they will tomorrow? ;)
-
Just shows how the change affects your view of things...when I saw this thread title, I thought it was about hot flushes ::) ;D
-
;D
Well a hot flush would save on heating. ::)
-
Wind is chilly. Sky is grey. Leccy blanket on all night :-\. I looked at my Summer light-weight tops in the week and wondered if they will come out of the drawer anytime soon :D
-
We had a new boiler last summer and have felt the benefit this past winter for sure. The house is lovely and warm but not overly hot.
We only have the heating coming on in the morning at 6:30am and it goes off at 9:30am. Then on again at 4:30pm to 10pm at night. That seemed to work well for us. Hubby would occasionally put it on after lunch if he felt cold. I just put on a jumper! :)
-
Not had the heating off much since this so called spring arrived. Blowing a gale with heavy rain today.
-
Likewise buggz_71. It's up to 72F right now :-*

I am on a 2 week trip to Italy. I stayed for the first week with a local host in Arezzo Tuscany. The weather has been cold and wet for most of the week and her flat was really cold with no heating on at all. I wondered why and then heard of a rule that domestic heating must remain off between March 31st and Nov 1st whatever the weather! Have now moved to a new host in Bologna. It seems warmer here.
-
…. and the Italians stick to that 'rule' :o
I was talking to an Italian driver of F1 racing cars this week and he told me that it is warmer here than in Florence ::)
-
Me. Last night and again this afternoon. I will need a blanket when out and about tomorrow ::). Lleccy blanket was on all night too.
-
We did reluctantly,fgs its June ! >:(
-
Grandad could remember it snowing in June …….
-
Here too its freezing ???
-
Had mine on for 2 days now.
Meant to warm up here tomorrow.
-
Yeah, ours has been on two evenings now - where's this heatwave we were promised??
Ditto :)
-
Yup! Sad to say.
K.

It was the Daily Express that promised us a heatwave - I got the thermals out as soon as I read it!!
-
It's been a glorious week here in the west, I was shocked to hear the spring watch presenters saying its chilly and wearing padded jackets.
I has some painting to do yesterday so I as up and down the step ladder, I was a sweaty mess afterwards and needed a cold shower ;D
-
Keep that fleece on StellaJane ;D
Chilly this evening - heating on
-
Yep. Last night after it started raining the house turned cold …… and again this afternoon B4 the chill set in. Cosy now. Electric blanket has been on for a few weeks ……...
-
Now the chimney has been relined we have had the log burner on the last two nights ::)
Not tonight though as we've only just got in !
-
Not yet though I was tempted yesterday afternoon. Don't need to actually turn it on. Just adjust the remote thermostat and it will come on by itself. Must check that it will start up if required before the chill really starts.
-
Hi.
I wish, my flushes are so frequent I need no heating on at home .....
-
Not been on yet.
-
Put it on yesterday
-
Electric blanket was on all night.
-
Am feeling the cold at night and mornings but not put heating on. Yet trying not to succumb to putting the heating on very tricky indeed.
-
I won't be cold for anyone! I put the heating on earlier and Himself turned it down - because we had windows open around the house :beat:
-
I've snuck up the thermostat again ;)
-
Not yet but slipping over a throw in the evenings!
We have that battle too CLKD. I turn the thermostat up: hubby turns it down. Often it's an unspoken skirmish before we go to bed at night. Whoever is up last wins the adjusting the thermostat war!
I feel sure he is rejoicing in my frequent bouts of flushes as I'm a darn sight warmer than I usually am!
-
No, but the gas fire is on........My DH comes from Yorkshire ( enough said ) ;D ;)
-
:-X ;D
-
We have had ours on for short periods each day since last Friday.

Toasty now. Will lower the thermostat later.
-
Lit the 1st fire of Autumn on Sunday afternoon.
Heating on now, the air is cold :-\
-
Ours has been on since beginning of October. Chilly mornings.
-
I've got it into my head that I would like a range in the lounge with a back burner to heat the house ::): however!
-
Background gentle chuntering of the oil boiler ……. :)
