Title: Covid again! Anyone else?
Post by: Taz2 on July 31, 2023, 12:48:50 PM
We both tested positive for COVID again this morning. Just wondered how many others on here have got it? I still test twice a week as we socialise in our local pubs and also music venues plus I visit a neighbour in a care home so it seems a sensible thing to do. I realise that we don't have to test anymore.

My friend's daughter has tested positive 8 times since the outset of this disease.  Most times she has felt very ill.

Obviously there are carriers out there for all Germs/Bugs, with this we are more aware of who to protect.  How do U both feel?

Thanks CLKD. I feel like a flu type cold the same as last time and OH has no symptoms. Last time it took ages before I felt better including a trip to A&E so fingers crossed this time

Oh Taz so sorry to hear you have Covid again! I have not tested since my husband and I had it a year ago (for the first and so far only time) but also fortunately haven't been ill since then, and in fact haven't given it a thought. Probably there will be many more people who have it then know they have it now, because most do not test I don't think. Well done for doing so!

I do hope you don't suffer this time and get better soon :)

DIL has recently returned from Brazil, we think that's where she got it. But have heard that COVID is on the rise again and people not reporting it this time.
Title: Re: Covid again! Anyone else?

There is no way of reporting it as that service was closed down. The advice is still to test before events such as theatre or music and to say away from people for five days following a positive result. Since we now have to pay for tests many people dont bother. Where my OH works nobody on the shop floor gets paid for sick leave so nobody tests and they just work on through it.  The Zoe app is still live though.

There is a new Omicron strain I believe. Cases have been rising over the past few weeks.

Hope you get well soon, hopefully the previous vaccines plus immunity from when ypu last had covid will stand you in good stead.

If you get respiratory stuff, the best supplement we found is NAC, works same day to reduce mucous and make breathing easier xx

No more vaccinations for me.  The booster caused me heart problems for six months. My one covid infection was no more than a cold.
Title: Re: Covid again! Anyone else?

Whoops! I didn't realise that the booster programme has been stepped down - sorry. It seems to be against the advice of the European health organisation who think that people should have an autumn booster 2023 for over 60s and a spring one for the over 80's. I'm not sure what age group we will give an autumn booster to. The information seems a bit sparse reading "depending on age" but no age mentioned. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/jcvi-advises-an-autumn-covid-19-vaccine-booster

I do find it strange having been told that we need the vaccinations to prevent serious illness but now, in order to get it under control in the community, we have to let it run it's course and some will get over it and some won't. I'm still annoyed I got it again as I felt fairly healthy although I did have a tummy bug about a month ago which really left me very tired.

The cough is developing well  - I didn't have much of a cough last time - and OH is about the same. We still don't know who caught it first as looking back we both felt a bit "off" towards the end of last week. He has lots of it at work and because they don't get paid if off sick nobody tests and just carries on working.

Aprilflower - I'm pleased that your covid infection was no more than a cold but so sorry about your heart problems. Is it permanently damaged? I had to spend some time in A&E last July after catching covid as it did weird things with my heart rate and rhythm so, for me, I think the vaccine probably helped me avoid a more serious illness. It's strange how we are all affected differently. Close friends of mine in their fifties caught it at the same time. She had no symptoms but he ended up on a ventilator. They are both fit and healthy.

Butting in here: last Thursday I sneezed all day; Fri and Sat really tired, slept a lot.  Decided on Sunday when I felt better that it was a cold.  However: DH tested positive on Monday morning after 24 hours of aching  >:(.  He's at the coughing stage.

I had a weird head sensation for 4 hours, starting around 9.30 p.m.  The back part of the skull that we lay on felt as though it had a chicken, scratching in dry earth .... scratch x 5, then stop.  Repeat.  Occaionslly my brain would feel like it was moving slightly behind.  Even when completely still.  It kept me awake as did my brain trying to solve crossword clues - but the grid wasn't suitable for the clues  >:(

I've had a bath, cuppa to hand.

Morning Taz

recap = Thursday last week: sneezed all day, runny nose.  Fri/Sat very tired, blurred vision.  Sunday well again.  Monday/Tuesday got on with chores - began to feel off on Tuesday afternoon and by wed new something wasn't 'right'.  DH tested positive on Monday; both positive on Thursday.

Sore throats, spasmodic coughing.  Don't know if we had a fever although we both ran hot and cold  ::).  Will test again tomorrow.  Me - Blurred vision and very muggy head this morning.  Can't be bothered with much  ::). It's certainly a strange one!  Not at all like 'flu.

Is it the first time you've had it? It's different for me this time than last. Cleared it faster but I'm not sure, looking back, when it actually started this time. Muscle aches are worse but cough is much less than the first time. Lots of cases locally here (South) Take it easy.

1st positive tests for both of us.  Even the gut problems 12/18 months ago didn't give a positive test.

My sister tries to tell me that she had it 'again last week and it gets easier each time'.  She no longer tests; apparently.  Although being in the care industry  >:( but she's trying to elicit a response from me.  Too weary to play her games.

Speaking to Mum's practice nurse yesterday, there is a high rise of cases in East Anglia.

Hello.  Long time no see.

We both had covid in March 2022, got better, except my husband not so much, carried on being tired for ages.  And we had it again recently at the beginning of June.  Ye gods!  I felt awful for a few days, like could barely move, but he's been so ill.  Before the first lot of covid, he was running, going to the gym, working, managing a huge allotment, and then he sort of lost his legs.  This time round, well, he can't shift the cough, despite antibiotics, can't walk far (e.g. to the shops) without breathlessness, can't stay awake, can't think.  It's really hit him hard, and he was a super fit bloke, slim and athletic.

^^ I hope your recoveries go better.

Elk Warning - that's awful.  Your DH needs to get onto a 'long covid' research group for support.  Also physiotherapy on a regular basis to encourage muscle mass.  the 1st muscles to atrophy are the thighs which impacts on the whole body.  Breathlessness is scary.

That's good news CLKD! I've been afflicted by post covid fatigue this time around. It isn't long covid.  It may be an inner ear infection.  How is your diet overall?  Does this occur at any particular time of day?  It could be postural vertigo though in my experience you WOULD know.

I've a nerve in the back of my neck which makes me feel 'off balance' when I move suddenly, an "OH" moment and it's gone.

🤔 Funnily enough, Hugsneed, I had a bit of a strange "off balance" feeling yesterday - quite unusual for me. I had my covid booster almost 2 weeks ago so didn't really relate it to that but who knows? It wasn't so much a lightheaded feeling but more "off balance" like you said.

I did think I was drinking enough liquids. Don’t suffer from UTIs now (largely due to vaginal oestrogen 🙏).
On Jeremy Vine today the question was asked around whether free covid tests should be available again, given the uptick in cases. Who knows?🤷‍♀️

However: people are being tested in Hospital where the 'statistics' are being gathered: do these people be admitted due to Covid symptoms or due to other conditions either as cold cases or emergencies?  This is never going to give a clear picture of how Covid is affecting the country!

Why should test kits be free ..........  :-\

How did U get on Taz with that appt.?

The doctor was really thorough. He booked an ECG at the surgery for me the next day and sent me for blood tests. I asked for cholesterol to be included as  not had mine done since 2017. That's come back as raised at 5.9 so that's something to address. I've just been referred to cardiology as a precaution. Waiting for the other blood results now. Still feeling very tired but I think I'm better than I was! Three weeks left before it's called long covid which I've decided not to have.  ;D. Thank you for asking

I think medics like cholesterol to be 5.  Mine was 7.2 for years  ::).

Tnx for the update.  Will U be tested for low VitD as that can cause intense tiredness.  Long covid is when symptoms continue after 12 weeks.  I'm sure that, with your determination, that you'll be up and running by then ;-).

Sadly you can't determine your way out of long covid as it is a physical thing. Wouldn't it be great if we could!

Yes cholesterol is a bit complicated but overall it should be under 5. I need to have a chat with the doctor before deciding what to do. It's great reading all the results online now. In 2016 it was 7.2 apparently! Never knew that till today.
