News from the journals 2005: Blame the parents.

2005

Finally, it appears from a report in Osteoporosis Int., July 2005, that our
parents may be one of the greatest influences in determining our risk of
osteoporosis. Early postmenopausal women found to have osteoporosis were
much more likely to have had a parent who had had a fracture compared to
controls (women who did not have osteoporosis). The findings support the
theories of a genetic contribution to osteoporosis and underline the importance
of reporting a parental history of fracture when identifying osteoporosis
in early postmenopausal women.
