12 June 2021

Dr Heather Currie, the founder and managing director of Menopause Matters website, print magazine, forum and newsletter has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Heather receives the award in recognition of her services to healthcare.

In addition to establishing Menopause Matters in 2001 she is still a practising Gynaecologist and Associate Medical Director at Dumfries & Galloway NHS, clinical advisor for Scottish Government on the Women's Health plan for Scotland and was the Scottish National Clinical Lead for Modernising Gynaecology Outpatients.

In addition to the day job Heather is also co-editor of Post Reproductive Health, the journal of the British Menopause Society, Trustee and a past Chair of the British Menopause Society.

Dr Currie has written several papers and books including Menopause: Essentials: Expert And Practical Advice; Your Most Vital Questions Answered and Menopause: Answers at Your Fingertips.

The team at Menopause Matters were unanimous in their response to the news: "We're all just so delighted for Heather. This honour is richly deserved as she has
worked tirelessly over many years to ensure accurate, up to date, balanced information is available to women in order for them to make an informed treatment choice for their menopause symptoms. She puts in many hours, thought and care and has made a difference to the lives of many women. We know she is held in high esteem in her field and it's just great to see her work and career acknowledged in this way."
Asked what she felt Heather said: "My first reaction was certainly surprise at the news and to be honest I am still a little overwhelmed but nonetheless very proud too.
I am surrounded by a great team at Menopause Matters and in my work too, along with a wonderful family, and could not do what I do without their support either."
