New chair for the BMS

20 July 2017

We are delighted to welcome Kathy Abernethy as our new chair. Kathy, a senior nurse specialist at Northwick Park Hospital, has worked in the field of menopause for over 25 years. She is a founding member of the BMS and also a member of the very first council, established under the chairmanship of Tony Parsons in 1989. Kathy is the first nurse to be elected to this post since the society was founded 28 years ago.

Kathy took up post at the AGM during the 27th BMS annual conference, seen here wearing the BMS badge of office with immediate past chairman, Heather Currie. A very warm vote of thanks to Heather for her inspirational leadership over two years. Heather's passion, not just for women's health, but for the work of the BMS, shone through her chairmanship. She hands over the BMS to Kathy in very good shape.

Kathy said "I look forward to the challenge that chairing a multidisciplinary society will bring. Heather is a hard act to follow, but I am confident that my experience and expertise of working in the field of menopause will stand me in good stead. I aspire to see all women, wherever they are in the UK, having access to the great menopause care that we offer."
