Advice about Estriol Cream please
« on: November 09, 2025, 10:00:59 PM »

hi everyone,
I joined years ago but don't think I ever plucked up the courage to post anything.  Now I'm looking for some help please.
I have vaginal atrophy and have had for around 20 years.  Haven't been able to have sex at all during that time.  I was using estradiol pessaries twice a week but they didn't really help and I didn't like the smell.  Also, even those tiny tubes make me bleed a little.  So. .  .I  have just recently been moved onto estriol cream.  I'm having real difficulty inserting the plastic tube as i am so dry and tight.  Is it ok to use a lubricant on the tube to allow me to insert the cream?  Just not sure what to do and getting to see a doc is pretty difficult. Thanks in advance.

Morning.  Many report slight bleeding when beginning appropriate atrophy treatment due to the vaginal walls being very thin.  20 years is a long time to wait!

I've never noticed a smell with any product that I have been prescribed.  This should be reported to your prescribing practitioner. R U able to describe the smell?

It is OK to use lubricants on the tube prior to insertion and don't push too far in initially.  If necessary put the cream onto the finger to apply gently, ignoring the applicator, mayB around the vulva and labia first for a few nights and a little into the vagina entrance.

Gently gently.  MayB add a little 2/3 times a day to loosen up the entrance.  Don't panic, this will help the more that u insert.

You probably were never using enough of the pessaries to have any affect, 20 years is a long time to be suffering from a condition that can be controlled with enough treatment.
Its perfectly fine to use a moisturiser to help, in fact I would never be without it alongside Vagifem and a smear of Estriol cream both on a daily basis.
You should have this condition well under control by now, don't be afraid to use as much of the treatment that you need until you feel much better then decide if you want to reduce the dose.
