Has anyone had a panic attack with a flush?
« on: May 19, 2025, 11:56:52 PM »

I'm not sure what's going on with me.

I have symptoms of high oestrogen (had them before and lowered dose) which in the past means head pain, postural hypotension with head pounding, chest discomfort etc.

Tonight I had a flushed face, then a 'feeling' in the chest, like a focus and sensation, not pain.  It felt like something was rising up through my body but I don't know if I was just over focusing on that because I wanted it to be a flush and not a heart problem (recent past tests have all been normal and doctor said symptoms likely due to low bp when oestrogen high).

I left my friend's house quickly, mainly due to panic and then drove for a while with windows wide open and a/c on until I was shivering.  After 20 mins driving I felt a little bit better but still anxious about it all.  I just want to feel healthy or be sure this is 'just' menopause iykwim

I know no one can tell me what this was, but if anyone has had similar experiences that are not a typical flush, that could be a bit reassuring.  I do not feel reassured by my gp surgery at all atm as it's not functioning well at all and when you feel anxious and low, sometimes it's not easy to go somewhere when the service makes it difficult.  But it's my anxiety that's a big part of this too.

It mayB an adrenaline rush, 4 me it's like hot water flowing through my veins  ::).  Sudden nausea induces panic attacks which floor me.

Some ladies get a warm glow or a feeling of anxiety prior to a hot flush.  How R U this. morning?

thanks for your reply CLKD  :)

I was better today, not totally right but better.  That leads me to think it's because the oestrogen is wearing off and that's the problem, that it's too high.

At the same time my face is flushed as I type.  Could still be too much oestrogen, but my face 'looks' like low oestrogen.  I know it sounds odd but when I've been low in oestrogen in the past I've had more noticeable crow's feet (that seem to go once the oestrogen is right again) and eyes seem brighter.

So who knows  ;D  I know it's all a moving goal post and I need to get a blood test.

Maybe time to keep a diary on it.

I changed to second combined patch on monday.  Then all those weird symptoms monday night.

Tonight (tuesday night) I've changed to another combined patch, the monday one seemed a bit 'mottled' (only description I can think of, it wasn't torn or hanging off, just very bumpy and uneven).

My facial flushing has calmed down but if I get postural hypotension on wednesday when trying to do anything physical, I'll..   I don't know.  ;D  oestrogen, or progesterone?  :-\

Exactly this. I’ve had about 5 times over as many years and it’s really scary. It comes from nowhere and for me it’s like my heart stops then there is a surging build of pressure moving up from my chest into my head. Then it subsides but I honestly feel in the moment that I am about to pass out or die. My heart rate doesn’t really increase and I’m not hyperventilating so I don’t think it’s a panic attack but it leaves me feeling so anxious.

I have been experiencing palpitation and internal quivering like sensations for about a year and honestly, it’s really getting me down. Anxiety is awful :(

Sorry you are having these type of symptoms as well Lisaemma73

I get the internal quivering sensations, they are so odd but thankfully have heard of others in menopause / peri who have them.  I was and am worried about neurological conditions but have heard about this enough to have hope it might be hormones for now.

The heart symptoms are apparently all common too as the heart reacts to changing hormones.  Frankly peri menopause and menopause is a nightmare, and no previous generation told me, unless they had it easier.  One relative said she had mental health problems and they were awful, but otherwise she was fine physically.  I'm mainly not good physically and I see a lot of these symptoms as physical first and then they make me anxious but it's secondary.

I hope things calm down for you soon too  :)

Thanks for replying. That is really reassuring x

You’re absolutely right. Physical symptoms for me raise the anxiety. For the most part I reassure myself that it’s just meno symptoms but then something catches me off guard and I easily spiral into the anxiety loop.

Thanks again. That’s has really helped x
