Bleeding after 3rd mirena coil inserted
« on: March 13, 2025, 08:08:47 AM »

Hi all,
I have used mirena coil as part of hrt since 2015, and urs bern great.
I had bleeding off and in for almost 6 months after my first one, no problems after second.
This time there were a few issues, firstly the nurse couldn’t insert my new coil as my cervix went into a spasm after she removed the old one,
So I had to use utrogestan vaginally for a month, then I went back  last Wednesday and was able to have this one inserted.
It was quite an uncomfortable experience, and I had dull ache/dragging pain for the rest of the day, and quite a lot of blood.
The bleeding eased and stopped by last Friday and thought all was fine, but since Tuesday this week it’s back again and a bit crampy, it’s quite brightened and although not as heavy as a period, it’s enough I need a towel.
Should I be concerned? Or is this normal after coil insertion? Albeit my third?
I think I was expecting no bleeding as I
 had non after my second.
I had an ultra sound prior to coil fit to check uterus lining, and all was fine and thin.
Any thoughts/advice greatly appreciated

It is probably nothing to be concerned about but given the traumatic insertion I would advise getting checked out just to be sure it is correctly situated and that there's no infection.

If you call the clinic where it was fitted they should be able to help you.

Thank you bombsh3ll

I have contacted my surgery, as it’s a doctor they have come in who does the coil fittings.

I’m just concerned by the amount of bleeding as I’ve had two previous coils, and never had this crampy, draggy feeling and this amount of blood, I’ve had spotting previously, but this needs a towel or mini tampon
