SKYPE - closing in May

Skype, the video-calling service that had hundreds of millions of users, is closing in May, its owner Microsoft has said.
It was once one of the world's most popular websites and allowed people to make voice calls via their computers to friends and family all over the globe for free
.
Skype was not the first or only company offering this service but by allowing the public to make computer-to-computer calls free, it helped popularise the concept.
In an announcement on X, external, Skype said users can sign in to Microsoft Teams with their account to stay connected with all their chats and contacts.
Whatever SKYPE is it's closing

I don't use any of those: DH is on various Sports WhatsApp as well as with his brother: who suggested in August 2024 that he wouldn't be sending me texts or e-mails in future because WhatsApp is free
. That's no loss then

I find WhatsApp brilliant for keeping in touch. Sending photos without incurring a charge is so useful. I also WhatsApp call my childhood best friend who moved to New Zealand 40 years ago for lovely meandering conversations free of charge. Amazing.

I hadn’t used Skype in years either, so this news didn’t really surprise me. Most of my chats and calls are through WhatsApp or FaceTime now too. They’re just easier, especially for sending pics or doing quick video updates with friends abroad. WhatsApp in particular has replaced a ton of my old email conversations.
When I share video messages or edited clips with friends, I often need to convert file formats to something lighter or more compatible. I’ve found this M2P
https://www.movavi.com/video-converter/m2p-converter.html
handy when I need to make videos more manageable for mobile sharing.
