Breast calcifications
« on: January 16, 2025, 07:31:51 PM »

Hello everyone, I just had a breast biopsy for calcifications.  I'm very emotional and now the anaesthetic is wearing off I'm a bit sore.
The staff were so lovely but obviously can't rule out anything at this point.  The radiographer told me it may be benign but could be pre or very early cancer.  I will not find out for about 2 weeks.  I just don't know how to cope.  Any tips?
Thank you to anyone reading this.  I'm a wreck.

Just wanted to say hi and sorry for what you’re going through; nothing worse than waiting for test results. Do hope all is ok, let us know when you know.

Sorry to hear you are going through this.  Sounds basic but when in a similar situation I found getting outside for walks did really help - setting a target and increasing distance every day.  Also an absorbing activities such as a difficult knitting pattern, intricate art work, complex recipes or even good TV all helped me.  For me everything turned out ok in the end but the waiting is hardest part.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I can only imagine the anguish of waiting for results in this situation.

I would say do everything that is currently within your power to look after yourself - nourish your body with antioxidant rich foods, exercise outdoors if able, and of course sleep is incredibly valuable - don't hesitate to ask your GP for a short term sleep aid or anxiolytic if you would benefit from this.

Also focus on the positive information you already have - there is no sign of advanced cancer and worst case anything that is found looks like it has been detected early.

Be proactive regarding obtaining your result - rather than waiting for a letter or a phone call sometimes calling the clinic secretary now and again can get your mind put at rest a few days sooner if negative results are sitting in someone's in tray waiting to be actioned.
