Sandrena delayed my period
« on: October 31, 2024, 10:13:48 AM »

Hi all,

I’m 43 and on Sandrena (1mg) and Utrogestan (200mg day 15 to 26 of my cycle) and it seems to be really helping my joint pain and other perimenopausal symptoms. However, my cycle has gone from being 26/27 days to 32/33 and I feel awful in the lead up to my period (terrible pains, angry, emotional & just wanting my period to come). Could it be the amount of Sandrena I’m taking? I was on Oestrogel and they sent me crazy and seemed to stop my periods and I’m much better on Sandrena. My doctor told me I seemed sensible and I could take however much Sandrena I thought so that hasn’t been very helpful 🤦‍♀️. All advice welcome!
Thanks,
Rebecca

At 43 would you not rather use a combined pill that could get rid of your cycle completely if taken daily?

I'm on Zoely, I take the active pills only, never bleed and have no hormonal ups or downs.

I'm almost 45 and much prefer this than cyclical HRT which at best reinforces, and at worst competes with, your menstrual cycle rather than eliminating it.

Yeah I was definitely better on the pill but - maybe I should. I just feel like I’m delaying the inevitable! I felt amazing when I first started HRT so I felt it is possible…

I don't see the pill as delaying the inevitable, as I am bypassing rather than delaying menopause.

I plan to stay on it until around 54-55 barring any medical contraindications, when I can reasonably assume old aunt Flo is dead and buried, then switch straight onto bleed free combined hormone therapy.

I just want people to know this option exists and that there are alternatives to struggling with cyclical HRT.
