Hi Ladies,
Has anyone taken Utrogestan without oestrogen? Reason I ask is that I have been diagnosed with a large polyp that needs to be removed. It's being fed by the oestrogen part of my Evorel Conto. The Gynaecologist I saw yesterday wants me to to ween off HRT and told me I can only stay on it for 10 years (I'm 73 and been on Evorel 25 mgs for over 20 years) I have read somewhere that Utrogestan can help with sleep taken at bedtime and whilst I wait for surgery (few months) I could ditch the Evorel and just take Utrogestan to help with sleep and flushing which I know I will get..

I haven't ever taken it without oestrogen but a lot of women do say it helps with sleep. I think you would need specialist advice about changing your routine. Your gynae's view on HRT seems outdated. Lots of women stay on HRT long term nowadays. Good luck!

I don't know the answer but progesterone without sufficient oestrogen can make the lining too thin which can lead to bleeding. How bad are the polyps? Just wondering if you could continue with a low dose (not sure what you're on as you mention both evorel 25 and evorel conti which is 50mcg). Often not great to take hrt advice from a gynae as some of them know nothing about it. I don't think utro will help with flushing but some ads do.

I'm on Evorel Conti 25mcg (cut my patch in half for many years) The biggest polyp which is prolapsed is large around 3 cm plus quite a few fibroids. Do you mean antidepressants?

Yes, antidepressants. Oestrogen can make fibroids grow too  . There's a new drug for flushes too (fezolinetant) but I'm not sure if it's available on the NHS yet.

Thanks for your replies Sheila. I'll continue with my Evorel for now. Hopefully I wont have to wait too long to get the polyp removed...
