Hi Curlygirl & Jaypo, evening primrose oil was available for some years on NHS prescription for fibrocystic breast probs, but later withdrawn on the basis of lack of evidence of efficacy  :(.  Like you Curlygirl, I'd been recommended to take it at a breast clinic & had it on repeat prescription as it did seem to help.  My GP was as frustrated as I was when it was withdrawn.

It definitely helped me a huge amount. I continued to buy it and still do today ❤️

Yes, I continued to buy it too Curlygirl.  GP was just dismayed she could no longer prescribe it for her patients.

Hi

I am taking Magnesium Citrate in 2 x 300mg capsules of an evening. I slept the last 2 through until alarm!! But still get a surge at 5pm so wondering about splitting the citrate in two capsules, take one at night and then another around 3pm to stop the 5pm anxiety.

This seems a higher dose than others are taking so I could replace with 2x200... but don't want to stop sleeping....

Evening primrose oil and a multivitamin are great starts! Many women find magnesium, vitamin D, and omega-3 supplements helpful for managing perimenopause symptoms, but it's always good to check with a healthcare provider.

I found a site that offers Accessing premium German vitamins at a discounted price from the US. If you need to, you can take a look.

I’ve been riding the perimenopause roller coaster for a minute, so I’ve poked around supplements. Evening primrose’s my OG but lately, I’ve dug magnesium glycinate. It chills out night sweats and calms jittery vibes. ;) Also, vitamin D3 keeps bones happy, especially on cloudy days. Don’t sleep on B-complex either; it’s like a reset button for energy dips. :) Speaking of supplements, I usually check their info on WebMD, Mayo Clinic and The247Rx first before trying them. The bottom line is your body’s unique, so maybe start slow and always chat with your doc before exploring new stuff.

Tnx but many UK Consultants in several specialities suggest that the supplement we all require is VitD.  We should get what the body requires from a balanced diet and should be ignoring all the advertisements in womens' magazines etc..

Which symptom were you trying to ease?  At least the sweats and jittery vibes have eased for you!  Being aware of exactly how much active ingredient is in each product as so much might be packaging etc..

As we age, our bodies can have issues absorbing the amount of vitamins and minerals it needs from food so we do need to supplement.

The best idea is to get your levels checked by a blood test. You can then supplement exactly what you're deficient in. I am deficient in D, B12 and folate even though I eat a healthy well balanced diet and get out in the sun. My sister who lives in Florida is vitamin D deficient even with the amount of sunshine they get!

Multivitamins are not really a good idea. Many of them contain very small amounts, less than we need, and some contain iron which can prevent your body  absorbing other things.

Simply not true, we need supplements as we age because we don't absorb vitamins and minerals well with an ageing digestive system, better to safeguard yourself by helping it along with the right individual supplements and not in a multi form, they really are a waste of money.

I was in a group 'setting' recently where handling of soil was mentioned as benefit to human health.
I feel more people gardened and just naturally handled soil years ago. Houses built with the intention of having garden space, vegetables weren't scrubbed and clean when you bought them.
Here is one link ..... an AI overview came up as well when i goggled it.

My gran always said 'a peck of dirt won't hurt you'.

Likewise Minusminnie - kids jumped in puddles, we played on the beach without gloves, dug in the small plot beside Grandad ........

Growing up on my grandpas farm, I was always in muck, we would sit in the field at lunchtime after either, sheep shearing or ploughing etc with not a so much as a soap and water in sight  ;D
