Injections!
« on: June 12, 2022, 05:37:28 PM »

Hi,
I’ve suffered with my back for a few years now, bulging discs, arthritis, stenosis, etc. I was due to have bilateral nerve blocks, L4/5. Anyway to cut a long story short, I have a new consultant who has changed the plan due to presentation of symptoms, etc. I’m now getting injections in my SI joint. I’m going tomorrow, I can feel the anxiety starting and my brain becoming irrational, I’m so nervous. Has anyone else experienced these injections, if so what was your experience?
Thanks
Spangles

Hi spangles,my ruptured disc was L6 but rather than opt for surgery, I did the McKenzie exercises and oh my,they actually worked, have you ever heard of them?
As for the injection,no,sorry but I've had several cortisol injections straight into my elbow joint but I was just so glad that they relieved my severe tennis elbow, I was always more than happy to have them. I know all about anxiety, believe me,so I do understand what your brain is doing to you but these injections are given daily by people who know exactly what they're doing, you'll be ok xx

OUCH!  I would expect this to be done under a general anaesthetic  :-\

Let us know how you get on.  It's probably a steroid: Depo Madrone : which acts like WD40  ::).  Take a list of any worries to discuss - this is your body and you can say 'no' if necessary.

I’ve had the same injections for frozen shoulder. Was ok, but I was a bit weird afterwards for about 24 hours.
For the injections tomorrow, it is done in theatre with live x-Ray, contrast dye and just local anaesthetic! Hence the anxiety! I know people which have had similar between the discs and they were either general anaesthetic or sedated. I was told I need to be awake as the consultant will be asking questions during the procedure.

Make sure that you get 'enough' local anaesthetic.  Not an injection which is LA first followed by the dye in the same needle.  LA needs time to begin the numbing process, if you think bout getting it in the dentists ;-).

Hello Spangles.
I am interested in your post please.
Just diagnosed last week with osteo arthritis of the neck and upper spine. The also diagnosed buldging disc at C6 and C7.

Quite frankly the pain is miserable, the optician in the same week said I am heading for Glaucoma....shikes

As an ex nurse I would welcome injections to shift the pain of this horrid health need, take my strength to hold you tight and see how it goes.

Big hugs

Ms Peak xx

Hi Ms Peak,
Had the injection into my left SI joint yesterday. Not going to lie, it was horrendous! Made me scream it did. I’m still partially numb at the base of my spine and left buttock. I’ve no pain on the area at all, just sore around the injection site. Ironically I now have the same pain in the right side!
I also have bulges and a bone spur in my neck at C5 and C6.
I would have the neck joints done if offered, but never the SI joint again, unless they nock me out! I’ve also has my shoulder joint injected for frozen shoulder, this was done by my GP, worked a treat.
Apparently I’ve been told they the SI joint is a particularly painful joint to have done. You should be fine with your C6/7, like I say, I’d definitely get mine done.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask any questions.

That is quite simply, abuse!  What was the procedure Spangles?  Were you given time for the LA to work?

CLKD, I was prepared as much as one can be for a painful procedure, my consultant was very frank about it being painful. On the plus side the pain is 80% less than it was before in that area now. So it was kind of worth it. Now to see how long it lasts. Numb or not, anyone would feel a 5 inch needle going in!

Shouldn't feel pain if the LA works properly, 1 might get a sensation of pressure and pulling.  A bit of WD40 ;-).  Let us know how you get on.

And mine - it was on my mind as I dropped off to sleep last night, what I would have done/said.  I think putting foot down with firm hand would be my 1st attempt at a GA!

How does it feel today?

Unfortunately a GA is the last resort,as you then have to stay in hospital longer for them to monitor you and of course the risks, I only know this as the specialist told me when I said I wanted GA for my  2nd colonoscopy.
You ok spangles?

Hi ladies,
I’m fine thank you. Managed to wash the car on Thursday, although a bit painful Friday. Can’t remember the last time a washed a car, but it felt good to be able.
