There are so many forms of HRT. After not needing HRT for many years I have recently had to start using Vagifem at 72 for VA. This will now be for life and I have to say it's working very well for me.

What's on your mind in terms of taking it or not? 😊

Hi Daisie,
My mom has just started HRT after a 20+ year gap, she’s 74. She’s been prescribed gel and Utrogestan. She’s very fit, just had second hip replacement so had several bone scans. She’s in Europe so I can’t visit yet but she sounds extremely upbeat!

What HRT I'm on? I am on Evorel 50 as I don't need a progesterone due to a hysterectomy aged 60.

By full HRT do you mean you had your ovaries removed as well?

So that's a full hysterectomy plus oophorectomy. Even post menopause the ovaries continue to produce a little oestrogen so no wonder you are short on hormones. I think you need to read up as much as you can on starting HRT over 60 (it's the starting late which can cause a GP to be cautious) and then ask if you could try it. Patch or gel HRT is safer as in tablet form it can increase the risk of stroke slightly. You are lucky in that you will only need oestrogen as it is the combined HRT which can raise the risk of breast cancer. Do you have other menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes or vaginal dryness or discomfort?
