Anyone under 50, post-meno, & on low-dose or no HRT?
« on: September 29, 2021, 01:40:31 AM »

Hello!
I had sudden menopause at 38 due to surgery & ovarian failure. I’ve been on HRT for almost 10 years because my body wasn’t making any sex hormones and my doctors said I was too young to have no estrogen at all.

I struggle with major progesterone intolerance (100mg capsules vaginally, Studd regime of 7 days per month sadly didn’t work for me), as well as horrible endometriosis-like cramps and bleeding from my estradiol patch, so over the last decade I’ve lowered my doses.

I’m now almost 48 years old and am wondering about trying a compounded very low dose of progesterone (50mg/day, every day) with a 25mcg, or even 12.5mcg patch.

I fear I’m too young to go entirely off HRT, but I’m not sure how much more I can take, and I don’t want a hysterectomy. Has anyone under 50 gone off HRT successfully, or found some relief in ultra low doses?

Morning.

Many struggle with the progesterone phase of HRT.  Hopefully someone will be along to advise, certainly if possible, you need to continue with some form of HRT to protect heart and bones.

I don't think there are any good answers. You'll only know if the low dose has been successful when you don't have osteoporosis or heart problems in the future. I don't know what to advise, whichever way you go there are positives and negatives and I guess it's only you who can decide when you've had enough. Do you have a meno specialist you can discuss it with? Presumably you've tried other progestins without success? If you go for a compounded progesterone do make sure it comes from a reputable source.

Hoping4best, I’m wondering how you’re doing now?
I’m in a similar position to you when you posted this.
