New here and needing some advice!
« on: May 05, 2021, 10:44:28 AM »

Hi everyone,
My name is Samantha, i am 49 years old (50 in a few weeks)
I have been menopausal now for a couple of years, this was confirmed by a blood test.
I didnt find the GP very helpful at all and then covid hit.
Just lately I am finding that when I have sex I am bleeding, not very heavy but it is there, I have also had pain down my right side near my ovary (I know it is not my appendix as I had these out when i was 15). I have not seen the GP regarding this and wandering if I should?
When I last saw the GP regarding my symptoms i mentioned about vaginal dryness, he prescribed my Replens. I used this on the weekend and after I inserted it there were spots of blood again. I do not know if this is due to vaginal dryness or something else, has anyone had similar?
The second thing is, I was told by the GP that due to me having high blood pressure I could not have HRT, are there any alternatives that I can dry?
I also have a very low sex drive and was wandering if there is anything over the counter I can take to improve this?
Sorry about all the questions, but I am sure I can get some good advice from here
Thanks for listening
Samantha

Morning!   :welcomemm:  Your GP is way behind in his/her thinking, 'replens' won't help the loss of ostrogen and is in fact, full of fillers that can aggravate an already sore area.

We have threads on 'bladder issues' and 'vaginal atrophy' which are worth a read.  Make notes ;-).

As oestrogen levels drop off the body may become dry: inside and out .........  blood spots are probably due to the vaginal tissue being thin so appropriate replacement is advised.

Did your GP take your BP?  I would ring and ask for a referral to a menopause clinic: not a gynaecologist as they often don't know any more about menopause than GPs!  People can take HRT if there BP is high!

Thankyou, some great advice there, I will take a look around the forum and will phone the GP next week (currently full of a cold and sore throat)

Sorry, had to dash for my pizza  ::)

Would you make a list prior to your GP conversation? What you taking for your cold?

yes I will take some information with me.
I have been watching some videos I have found and it looks like oestrogen may help?
I have type 2 diabetes and High blood pressure so I need something that doesnt counteract any medication I am already on.
On of the videos I just watched from a menopause specialist is that there is a type of HRT that actually helps with blood pressure problems, but I don't think she mentioned the name of it?
My GP a couple of years ago said that I couldn't have HRT because of HBP?

In terms of my cold, not taking anything except paracetamol, my throat feels like razorblades mind and I hardly slept last night.
I know it is not covid as I have done a test, I have boxes of lateral flow tests here because of my job
Thanks
Samantha

I hate Summer colds  >:( and can recall razor blades in the throat quite well!  And the itchy ears, throat, roof of mouth  ::)

If all else fails you can send an e-mail for advice to Dr Currie who set up the site, there is a charge.

Hi sammyg47.

Usually HRT can be prescribed if your high blood pressure is controlled adequately so fingers crossed for you.

Although vaginal atrophy is probably to blame any bleeding during or after sex does need to be investigated especially as you have had pain in the ovary region. Don't be fobbed off.

I hope your cold doesn't last too long.
