Hysteroscopy
« on: January 28, 2021, 05:01:29 PM »

I am having a panic!  Three weeks ago had a spot of bleeding, went to the GP, she did an internal and said she thought everything ok but would send me to the hospital just to be sure. Went last Thursday and had an ultra sound on my womb and an internal exam. On Tuesday got a call to say could I go to the hospital the following morning to see the gynae consultant.  Went this Wednesday morning and I had a Hysteroscopy, wasn’t expecting that!  The registrar told me that there was fluid in the cavity (her words).  I had the Hysteroscopy and was told she had taken a biopsy as they didn’t know if I had a fibroid or a polyp, she said the tests would take 4 weeks to come back!  This morning I had a phone call to go for a pre admission assessment before my procedure!!! I asked for the consultants secretary to ring me and explain what was going on, no phone call yet!! What does anybody think?

You mean that you got the phone call AFTER the hysteroscopy but before you had been told anything about the results? If so then I think you need a clarification. I had a hysteroscopy under GA last year but no biopsy was taken (endometrial layer too thin) so I was given the all clear when I came round.

I would want an idea of the reason behind the planned procedure before attending any pre assessment.

In the past I had ovarian cyst, saw the specialist at the hospital. Last thing she said to me see you in three months, but have a blood test on the way out.
A month later had a phone call saying I would be operated on in two days time.

No reason why, but I knew being moved forward that it meant something was wrong.
On the day of my operation, I asked the question “why have I been moved forward? What was wrong?
It turned out my blood cell count was in the hundreds, if it was in the thousands it would of been cancer. But because it was in the hundreds it meant something was wrong, and they wanted to get the cysts out.
It turned out one of the 4 cyst had attached it self.

I also had a thyroid problem, was on the waiting list for over a year. When I complained to my doctor about difficulty swallowing. After a ultrasound and biopsy, it was found I had something growing there that shouldn’t of been there. Again the word cancer came up and within two weeks of seeing the specialist, I was operated on. Again no cancer.

Yes, more then likely there is something wrong, but the fact they are acting so quickly is a good thing. I live in Australia and all my operations have been through the government Medicare. With my ovarian problem I was given very little information. That was over 20 years ago? With my many operations after I’d seemed to get better and more information.

Best of luck

Aren’t they completely thoughtless by not ringing you or writing to you about what’s going on. I’d be panic struck too .
They’re so unorganised at the moment it may even be a mistake .
I think the Sonographer measured your womb lining , hence the procedure, and they’ve seen the polyp and want to remove it.
Your GP may have some info , but if you’re going Monday you can ask what the heck is going on .
It’s your body they should discuss with you not amongst themselves.
Try and keep busy and have a tipple to calm you. I know they often remove polyps before they potentially cause problems. If it’s imbedded in the uterine lining they can be difficult to remove.
Please post Monday. x

Hi all,
On Friday evening I had a phone call from the consultant’s secretary, she told me that the registrar I had seen had written in my notes that it was a small fibroid and I was to have surgery! She didn’t say any of this to me!! Today I went for my ore assessment and was told that because of Covid-19 all the major operating theatres were closed so they were getting through day patients a lot quicker.  The nurse also told me that a lot of patients are refusing to go to hospital so patients like myself were being seen quicker. I am ok with that and to be honest the sooner the better, I have a little pain so hopefully once the procedure is done that will go. Thank you for all your concern, it really helps.
