Red Patch on Tongue
« on: October 01, 2020, 03:33:36 PM »

Hi ladies, I've read a lot of posts on here about Geographic Tongue, but that's not what mine looks like. I have a red patch (more like round shaped) on my tongue. It's in the middle of the tongue and it has been there for a couple of months now and it's getting bigger. I've read online about a condition called Median Rhomboid Glossitis and mine does look like it, but they say it's related to thrush infections which I've never had, as far as I know. My dentist thinks it's related to acid reflux (which I do have, the silent type), but there's nothing online confirming this. Has anyone had something similar? I'm due to see an ENT specialist soon but I'm not sure they know anything about tongues?

Never read about Geopgraphic Tongue and I've been here for years++.   :-\

If your dentist thinks it isn't thrush: which was my 1st thought : then reflux may be the problem.  Thrush often has white spots on the tongue and itches.  Do you rub your tongue on the roof of your mouth?  Mine does as I have allergy problems ....... I wake with the roof itching.

Search box? I think you have replied to one of the posts about it. Some of the posts are on threads about Burning Mouth Syndrome.

I don't have any signs of thrush, unless it's a chronic infection. No white spots.

No, I don't rub my tongue on the roof of mouth. I don't have any itching.

Thanks for replying.

That's probably a while ago  ::) >blames meno brain <  ;)

Ear Nose Throat consultants should know about tongues .......... maybe take a list of symptoms to the appt.?

Yes, I think it was a thread from 2013. Clearly this is not a menopause symptom.

I hope so, but there's no list of symptoms... I have no other symptom besides the red patch.

Thanks again.
