Stopped this particular HRT
« on: January 02, 2021, 11:33:27 PM »

Having just started taking HRT
Sandrena and urgesterone

And after just two weeks I have stopped taking it .

I was at A&E with the most terrible painful migraine which I had for 24 hours, no pain killers touched the pain at all.

The doctors down A&E advised me this was down to the new hrt medication I was taking and to stop taking it .

I am also on Vagifem having just completed the two week loading dose .

I had a phone consultation with my gp and was told that hrt is not advisable for my age (61) and has prescribed me Fluoxetine for my menopausal symptoms.

Shall I persist for another hrt or take this new medication?

Hi monalisa, sorry to hear that, really distressing. I don't think HRT alone can be blamed for the migraine attack. I think most of your symptoms, joint aches, bladder prolapse and now migraine could be due to HRT withdrawal, particularly the progestin part of Evorel Conti, norethisterone. Fluoxetine won't touch the prolapse and joint aches, I'm afraid. I understand you're on the lowest dose of Sandrena gel? Maybe your body had better absorption from the patch and now you might be having fluctuations on the gel? That could explain the migraine. Just some thoughts you can discuss with your GP or Gynae.
