No sleep due to night surges
« on: November 24, 2020, 04:23:57 AM »

Hi

For several weeks i have not been sleeping, wake from 1.00am experiencing these strange feelings that come up my upper body including arms and chest. Feel like a burning icy sensation that leaves me shaky and also a need to rush to the toilet. I have a feeling of dread along with them. During the day I am more anxious usually settles about tea time.

Have increased oestrogel to 3 pumps a day 2 at night but no improvement yet. I have never had a problem sleeping until this.

Anyone else heard of this??

Could you be using too much oestrogel?   Did waking begin around the time you altered the dose?

Cortisol is the other early morning problem.  Or you could be waking due to the need for the loo!

Thanks

Needing to rush to the toilet with soft stools (sorry TMF )comes after the adrenalin rushes that last a or around 3 hours..... been through the mill with my menopause journey but these feelings along with the anxiety is crippling. When it started a few weeks ago I actually thought I had Covid.

At the point now where Im looking to find a specialist as I feel on the edge....

Thank goodness for this site :)

You've been through the Mill!   :foryou:

Adrenaline can cause that need to rush feeling - if you watch a bird flying away in alarm, it always poos to lighten it's load = flying faster.  Nature's way of coping though it's horrible.

Adrenaline for me is like hot water flowing through my veins  :-\.  Have you anything short term for the anxiety?

Hello Warwick01

I'm sorry that you are having this problem. I used to have these surges every morning, they would wake me up and I would feel the adrenaline moving up and down my body. It was horrible but it did stop happening after a while.

I recall that you are on HRT so perhaps that needs reviewing and seeing a specialist should help you with that.

I know what you mean about feeling on the edge!  It just seems to be one distressing symptom after another and why this process has to take so long is beyond me.

Take care.

K.

CLKD - yes I feel its been harder than expected. Worse post menopause for me.

No trying to get through this myself. just started my relaxation tape again. Cant take Ssr antidepressants as had bad reaction in the past. I really need to sleep as I feel dreadful with the surges at night, don't get them during the day just all over sweats in the mornings along with the anxiety .

Kathleen - I agree its never ending. The only thing I can think of has my progesterone plummeted as this is a calming effect?? I hope your doing ok??

Thank you

Have you tried a betablocka?  A low dose can be beneficial in easing the early morning surges.  I used Propranolol successfully for several years.

R U able to drop off in the day?  If so, take advantage.  I rarely have problems sleeping at night even if I've slept in the day time, I might be later getting to sleep but I know the reason why ;-)

Hello again Warwick.

Thank you so much for asking about me.  I met a friend for coffee yesterday and we both had a good moan so that was good lol.

I think you mentioned that you would want to talk to a specialist and that seems like a good idea. In the meantime perhaps watch some of Louise Newson's videos as they are very informative.

Wishing you well and I hope things improve for you soon.
