Systemic HRT benefits in late 60s, very post-menopause
« on: January 31, 2021, 04:10:24 PM »

Hi ladies,
I'm working myself up to the pending phone consultation with an inconsistent gp, attitude-wise, about the referral I now feel is non-negotiable for specialist help at a menopause clinic. It's too exhausting for me to trawl for the advantages of systemic HRT, at my age and clearly very post-menopause. So, I would be very grateful if any ladies at a similar age and stage could identify the range of ways they feel systemic HRT has helped them beyond VA? I appreciate everyone is different and there may be quite a task ahead to a) get the referral in the first place and b) find the most suitable form. There are no other more biddable gps at the practice, sadly, so I need to have as clear, strong and productive a "case" prepared as possible. Sad, isn't it?!
In anticipation of your help.

Hello :O)
I am 64 and recently started a bout of dreadful Menio symptoms. I didnt have anything for 4 years at all so the Meno Nasties decided I should start suffering!
I am intrigued by Systemic HRT and wonder if its something I should consider?
Hope you get loads of helpful replies!

Postmeno3, systemic treatment has improved: sleep, joints, anxiety, mood. Libodo gone from non-existent to variable. Slight improvement in osteopaenia but 3rd DEXAscan due in summer so picture not clear yet. I use oestrogen and testosterone.

Thanks, guys, yes....hoping for lots of good "reasons". I know I'm going to have my work cut out. I'm convinced it could help the M.E., too, in terms of fatigue/brain fog and concentration/mood lability/nerve-ending issues etc etc etc, just not sure if she'd see that as linked.......so am undecided whether to raise this at all or as secondary benefits, even though they're massively affective and significant!

What meno symptoms do you have? The worse your symptoms the stronger the case for hrt, particularly if they're not ones that could be caused by something else. The Advice for Husbands pinned post will show you many of them. Perhaps put ME in the search box, you might see if it's helped others with it.

Hi Sheila 99.
My clear postmeno symptoms are quite marked dryness, painful intercourse, lowish libido, urethral/bladder sensitivity, nerve-ending sensitivity "down there" and in the nipples and mood changes. Would you say these are the symptoms I should emphasise? Are super-sensitive nerve-endings related to oestrogen deficiency?
Other symptoms like fatigue and temperature control enter into the grey area of M.E. in terms of what's causing what.
I have an Estring, but was prescribed Estriol 0.01 which almost immediately triggered thrush and an agitated bladder and even worse nerve-ending sensitivity so I stopped. Others have said Ovestin might be a better alternative. At 68 and in a lovely new relationship, I want to avoid as much "trial and error" with a gp as possible and get straight to the specialists as this alone will probably take time, especially just now. I'll try to access the thread you recommended again. (Update: still not available) Many thanks!
