Mirena coil-anxiety
« on: October 20, 2020, 10:45:22 AM »

Good morning
I posted on here a while ago basically I had a mirena coil fitted due to heavy heavy periods linked to endometriosis and potentially peri menapause issues.
The coil has helped with the periods basically I’m not flooding every month and my iron levels are stable. My iron levels dropped very low due to heavy bleeding.

Anyway since being fitted I’ve noticed I’m low in mood have a anxiety knot in my tummy most days and generally weepy. I’ve got a happy home life not stressing about anything yet I have this constant feeling of dread and gloom.

Has anyone had this? I’ve been looking at various forums and apparently it’s a common side effect yet know one even mentioned this to me. I also read the booklet they give you and depression and anxiety is listed as a common side effect.

Any experiences would be welcome. I’m speaking to the gp later. I’ve got two very young children so can’t carry on feeling like this.

Hi Fez1976

It’s very common I’m afraid and I had exactly the same experience as you.

I stuck with it for 6 months (as advised) but had it removed after that as it didn’t get any better.  I felt fantastic within 48 hours as it left my system. I’m on minimum progesterone allowed as it makes me so Ill.

Type mirena into the search box you’ll get lots of shared experiences.

Wishing you luck, and let us know how you get on x

Perhaps investigate a Kylena coil. It has a lower dose of progesterone but if it's a different kind you may not have the same side effects. I don't know enough about it so just putting it forward as a suggestion.

Do you have oestrogen with it or is it just the Mirena on its own?

I have the mirena and have had since my late 20s, I can honestly say its the best thing I've had. Like you, I had really heavy periods and I went to be sterilised but the consultant said it could make them worse so mentioned the mirena, I've never looked back. The only thing I dread is having it removed and refitted, its very painful :'(, other than that, I find it brilliant  :)

Hi there.
I've had a mirena for years. Exactly the same as you on the early days of it being fitted.
As GP or nurse for a small dose of Oestrogen to take too 1mg is usually enough to settle symptoms and it should be fine.
That's what I did, never looked back

I had this too, many moons ago. Remember going into Gp after 6 weeks in tears asking them to remove it. They refused.

I was told to stick it out, and I did. I had heavy periods and endometriosis, and I'm glad I stuck with it. Symptoms did settle.

If you can, bear with it, it can take time.
