Worried about my daughter
« on: August 05, 2020, 08:36:51 PM »

Hi

Another day, another thing to worry about.  My eldest daughter rang me up today to tell me she has been referred for a scan as she is continuously bleeding, and they don’t know why. She is on the pill.

I am really panicking, so was hoping that someone could tell me some  possible innocuous reason for it? I’m so worried, and don’t dare google ( I didn’t let on that I was worried to her, didn’t want to freak her out).

Oh, and she had a smear come back positive for hpv this year, and called back in a year... for retest.  ( so much for the vaccine !). She is 25.

Thanks

Hi Jeepers

Sorry to hear you’re so worried, a big downside of being a parent.

It sounds like your daughter is being investigated, which is good news.
It is possible that her problem is related to the pill she’s been taking- hormones   ::)

I agree with Salad - parents are born to worry.

How long does she have to wait for the scan?  I found during treatments that the waiting was the worst, the results I could deal with  ::)

Hi Jeepers. I totally understand your worry and I’m the worst person in the world with regards to worrying about my kids.

Might just be the pill she’s on which is affecting hormones etc and she may just need something different. When is the scan and was it the gp who referred her? I had a quick google for you and nothing alarming jumped out at me. This is different but I know of ladies who have had the implant who had constant bleeding so maybe it’s just the hormones out of whack? Things resolved once the implant was removed so maybe she just needs a change.

My 1st Contraceptive Pill made me sick ....... no scans then, the GP simply switched me.

Hi

Thanks all for replying, feeling a bit better now.  Hopefully input is just something to do with the pill.

Her scan is on 25 August, so nearly 3 weeks away.  Seems like an age.

Yes, worrying is a parents job.  Coincidentally, my younger daughter is having a scan next week for bladder/ kidney investigations.

Just gotta wait and see I suppose

Thanks again

I worry all the time about everything with my sons.  I too did a quick google, it says nothing bad that I saw and it can be a common side effect. I understand your worry though. I would be exactly the same, it's what us parents do ;)
I felt so bad when my son first got bad acid, I just gave him gaviscon, then after 18 months he started being sick after eating, turns out he is coeliac, how bad did I feel, still  have guilt now.

Hi jeepers , to be a parent is to worry isn’t it! I am sure as others have said it’s most likely her pill that is causing the abnormal bleeding.

Five years ago I had an abnormal smear after ignoring my reminders for 18 months😳 testing positive for HPV , had treatment to remove the abnormal cells shown on further investigation and have had the all clear ever since , I had no symptoms at all ,so if your concerned that could be the cause please try not to worry. Easy to say I know x
Is she taking the combined pill or the mini pill, I think more women have issues with abnormal bleeding on the mini pill?

Hi all

Thank you all again for replying. I'm not sure which pill.. if it's mini pill or not, I'll ask her.

She has come home for a while, and she told me yesterday that she has ovary pain, which has been going on "for months", in her words.

She said it's not severe, just low grade pain.

She seems to be coping okay and said " there are literally 100s of things it could be". So, I try not to let her know how anxious I am... She is probably right

Thinking of you Jeepers; from the day they're born we worry about our kids. Even though it could be one of a hundred things (as your daughter so rightly says), l know what you'll be thinking. Fingers crossed all is ok for her.

Hi Jeepers,

Thinking of you and your daughter and sending positive thoughts and hugs.

Interesting with your daughter ovary pain and bleeding. I wonder and believe they could be connected. Happened to me when I was 25 years old.
When I had 4 ovarian cyst and endometriosis I had mid cycle bleeding, but my ovary pain was like someone stabbing me.

I understand how you feel anxious about your daughter, it never stops this worrying.

Hello Jeepers.

I am sorry that you are having this worry. I have an adult daughter and son and I know how you feel.

Reading this thread reminded me that I had ovary pain when I came off the pill. My GP explained that when we ovulate sometimes the surrounding tissue can bleed a little and this can cause  pain. She said this can occur when our hormones have changed for some reason and she thought coming off the pill and re starting my natural cycle would account for the pain in my case. Perhaps this supports the theory that your daughter's change of pill is the cause of her problems.

Incidentally the pains soon subsided and I've never had any further problems with my ovaries.

I hope this helps a little and sending hugs.

K.

Thank you all for your really thoughtful replies, they really do help.  My daughter is on cerazette,  but I think it was micrgynon before. Less than two weeks til her scan now, just got to try not to panic.

My younger daughter has had her scan and the so ovrapher said he could find no masses which is a relief.  She then   Went to the loo and he rescanned and said that 12 ml or less after emptying would be good, but she had 50ml, no wonder she is wanting to pee all the time. Anyway, she has an appointment with consultant next week to discuss the results, so hopefully she’ll get some answers?

I’m sorry to put all this down on here.  Other areas of my life are such a mess right now, and it helps to get a little perspective on my kids worries, which become my worries...

Thanks all  :-*

Now your daughter is aware it can be sorted.  It's often the not knowing that gets the old brain wizzing!
