Breast reduction post menopause
« on: July 09, 2020, 05:33:18 PM »

Hi ladies,

I am have been having numerous menopause symptoms and this site has been very valuable to confirm that one is not going mad with all the issues. I am nearing post menopause, have tried different types of HRT but cannot tolerate progesterone and am off HRT and, whilst some things are improving like sleep, I am finding that breast size has increased over the last year especially to the extent that I am finding it becoming uncomfortable. I am small and at the lower end of BMI, so weight loss is not an option really and I also exercise regularly. Has anyone experienced that in post meno breasts tend to shrink again, or, are they getting bigger and bigger (the last thing I need). How long is it best to wait e.g. years post meno before considering reduction? Thanks for any advice, AG

If you lift weights ?

I wish it was but my weight lifting was limited and with gyms still closed I have not really done much from home.

Morning.

Lifting weights - well that ain't anything I would do, but I understand that people use tins of beans etc. at home as gentle exercise.

Hi AG
I am having big breast problems as well! I had a breast reduction in 2012. It was life changing for me as like you I have a small frame, normal weight etc and my breasts were huge and extremely uncomfortable. It was fabulous! And then I hit the menopause and I had to go on HRT last year to try and alleviate my symptoms although I had a suspicion that my breasts would get bigger and they have sadly. They haven't returned to their previous size but I can feel that they are becoming uncomfortable again. But I was feeling so ill that I felt I had no choice.
I am going to wait until I have been on HRT for a year and then consider having another reduction.
Please PM me if you want to ask me any questions.

Hi jennyr265,

Many thanks for your post. Sometimes one has to deal with the worst symptoms which may bring some other issues back as side effects, not an easy time for many women. I am keen to wait for a bit until next year or so before I'll do something about this as things may change a bit again due to hormones fluctuations still. Being able to get this done on NHS may also become more difficult due to resources and potentially depend on GP etc.

Hey,

I have heard about increasing breast size during menopause. I think if you are experiencing worries - go talk to a consultant about it, or breast reduction specialists - they aren't all out there to be looking for money! So they will only want to carry out a procedure if both believe required.
