Paresthesia and other weird things
« on: July 02, 2020, 07:40:48 PM »

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and had a good old moan on the menopause section.
I currently have Labrynthitis (or that's what the Dr thinks). Had it for nearly three weeks. I'm so dizzy all the time and had a period last week just to add in to the mix.
For the last week, I've had numbness/pins and needles and a draining sensation in my right arm, leg and foot. I've had full blood taken and it came back normal. Also have headaches/scalp sensitivity. I feel done in. I've convinced myself I have a brain tumour....which is making me so anxious.
I want the old me back...I love life but this is terrible.
Anyone else have Paresthesia on one side? What causes it?

Thanks for your reply, Folklass. I can't understand why it's only one sided. All on my right. Twitchy, burning and numbness. Do you get the same?

Arh right, I didn't know that. I'm having a few floaters but no spots or zig zags.
I'm putting it down to stress of having Labrynthitis....it's horrible!
I worry I have a tumour or something when anything is wrong with my head (overthink everything!)

It's your age, everything seems worse and terminal!

What did your GP give you to ease the dizziness?

Some ladies get carpal tunnel syndrome when pregnant which may account for some of the symptoms in your arms.  How is your grip?

Maybe keep a mood/food/symptom diary to chart progress?

Thanks for your replies. My grip is okay. My coordination is fine also. Had full blood tests which came back normal. Yes, I'm keeping a diary since having Labrynthitis.
The Dr gave me Betahistine which I didn't think did very much so stopped taking them. Saw an ENT via zoom who said it's called a mild vestibular failure (Labrynthitis) and it makes people feel terrible. it's causing me to be anxious because I think I've got something terrible. Headaches are coming and going. I've tried two Stugeron tablets but not noticed a difference. I can't believe you have it also! That's mad! ENT says it will last about three weeks. I'm nearly on the three week mark and it feels worse than week 1. it's because I'm tense I think. Weird arm and leg feelings. Interesting about Carpel tunnel in pregnancy. Hormones maybe then?

I forgot to  :welcomemm: - there are other anti-sickness meds on the market as well as 'Kwells' - anyone remember those  ::) but they don't help the dizzy feelings.

OMG! I have almost exactly the same symptoms for the same length of time!! I am driving myself crazy imagining the very worse. I spoke to GP yesterday, having had lots of blood tests and all normal. She has agreed to see me next week because I am getting myself in a right state. Awful dizziness, bit of a headache, pains in arms and legs, tingling and numbness. I am so fed up of feeling crap. I'm 47 and on HRT (Femoston)

I've had exactly the same for months now :)
Did you suffer from migraines before the menopause started? -  I noticed the type of migraine I had changed the later I got into Peri, not as much pain but numbness, tingling and a weakness mainly one sided (left hand for me) the feet tingling was an unexpected bonus! - I've had it most days now, but somedays it's barely noticeable.
I think the rise in Anxiety during menopause doesn't help, we tend to fear the worse, which in turn spikes the adrenaline and a vicious cycle emerges of worry, symptoms and anxiety so the feelings never seem to go away once they start.
I was also diagnosed with Labrynthitis and given Stemetil which helped when the dizziness was really bad at the beginning, but I felt it was more migraine related (I also feared Brain Tumour and Stroke thanks to Anxiety rearing it's ugly head again.. ::))
All my bloods were normal, heart fine, no sign of a stroke, etc.. but because I suffer from migraines and they've changed I need to see a Neurologist just to make sure.
I found that not worrying about it so much helped as well, once I realised that I am still here and things weren't getting worse the symptoms eased a bit, and I am sure, so like so many other things that it is another 'hormone' related symptom.
I do hope you get some reassurance from knowing you are not alone, but like everything new best to see your GP jut to make sure.
(I'm 47 - well into Peri and on HRT but not settled on one yet that works for me)

Which fingers are affected in C Tunnel as this will determine the nerve roots - I can't remember which way round but if certain fingers are 'numb' then it's from one root, possibly from the cervical spine, or from the elbow [I think].

I've had headaches everyday for 11 weeks, starting to get better.
I think my is sinus related and I'm waiting to see a ENT specialist at the end of this month.
I also find most of my silly pains in my body seems to be on the right side?

I feel a lot of my problems has worsened with menopause like sinus and back pain  and a lot I never had before like rib pain, IBS
