You are fortunate to see a hedgehog, I have not seen one for a very long  time. When I lived at home we had a cat kennel outside, the hedgehogs in the garden used the little kennel as their home, the cats were frightened of the hedgehogs. From what I have seen of hedgehogs I do not think they can go too flat, but other people may have better knowledge.  You certainly do not want your dog escaping.

That's what I can't understand, the entire garden is completely dog proof, our tiniest dog can't get out anywhere and the fences are high enough so our German shepherd can't jump over,it baffles me 🤷‍♀️

Maybe it lives with you?  They will lengthen their bodies to crawl under gates and will climb.

Ours isn't back yet  :-\
