Really CLKD, I'll have to listen out for that,
Although we live by a very busy main road, and sometimes
you can't hear anything except traffic, and loads sirens! ::) ::)
The main QE  hospital is not that far away.....
He's been back again today, probably a dozen times, then flys off in the same
direction ..it's brilliant.....lol  :)

Sitting out now in back garden, it's lovely, all shady, plants are lovely,
only gripe is,the acer tree has grown far too big!  :-\
Will have to cut right back in October....it's lovely though.. ;)

Wasps are really busy here too. They gnaw amazing strips along the fence. The hornets are enjoying the banana I managed to lodge in the forthysia.

Not sure what you mean CLKD about it being on video 🤣. Was he flaunting himself? 😊

I just wondered how you can tell there was a male and female without close inspection of the underparts which isn't that easy to do owing to there curling up nature  ;D

Cool on the patio.  Frogs climbing out of the ponds.  A few froglets plus some about 2/3 years old and more mature critters.  Air is completely still.  Evening primroses opening slowly ........ moths should enjoy those.  Hog was seen last night about 10.45 scuttling towards the dried mealworms floating on water .........

Scent of jasmine clotted cream is wafting across the patio.  Himself is setting broad bean plants - lots of.  Too hot earlier to do anything outside.

I've got windows open and right now it sounds like someone's playing a flute, that's the best way I can describe the sound,I wonder what it is I've never heard that before,it's obviously a bird but what? Anyone know?

The blackbird can sound very flute like or the song or mistle thrush. I've got a starling who mimics my neighbours flute perfectly though  ;D

The blackbirds around here are making alarm calls constantly.  It is all bip,bip,bip,bip,bip,bip,bip,bip................and on.
It is relentless.  There was a cat fight this morning.  I keep looking in the hedges for cats.  :-\  >:(

It'll be cats, magpies or other predators.  We had magpies here every time blue-tits fledged so I was out there, waving my arms ;-).  There is a different call for when they want the young out of the nest.

Am watching two 'hogs - one eating dried meal worms from a pot of water, the other drinking from a low dish.  Opp sides of the patio.  Now the one drinking has heard the one eating ......... so has scuttled back into the undergrowth  ::)
Moths about
Frogs croaking .......
Chilly!

Could you feed them something other than mealworms CLKD? They're not good for hogs I'm afraid although they quickly become addicted to them.

New family of goldfinches just arrived in the apple tree. Three babies this time. So noisy. The female Sparrowhawk has just taken a Chaffinch off the feeder. I do wish they killed more quickly and cleanly  :(

What's not good for them?  It's better to feed them something for a few nights  -   the ground is solid. No slugs anywhere.  I keep forgetting to buy cat food  ::) [as suggested by Tiggy Winkles] but will put it onto the list for tomorrow.  I have live worms arriving in the Post too but keeping those still until 'hogs arrive is difficult  ;)

We have watered parts of the garden but it hasn't been enough to bring slugs/snails in for the thrush etc..  The thrush was eating honeysuckle berries yesterday  :)

There's plenty of fresh water around.  One had a good feed of meal worms then a guzzle of fresh water.

Cat food bought.  Tried to avoid fish but apparently it's chicken mixed with fish ........ tin, spoon and dish ready, once the flies have gone I will serve up.

Humming bird moth here on the miniature stocks  8). so fast!
