it's awful
I can't believe we are going through all these horrid symptoms, I don't know what I will do if bloods come back normal, by gp will be even more dismissive than he already is.

Thank you for all the posts. It's reassuring to know that I'm not alone but also scary to hear that some of you have been dealing with this for quite some time. Have any of you tried any medications to treat your anxiety? I'm going to request that when I talk to my doctor on Wednesday. Today wasn't all bad. This morning my anxiety kicked in when my husband left for work. The thought of being home alone left me feeling very anxious but I did some yoga and was able to breathe through the panic until it settled. I then went about my day feeling pretty good and was able to get some housework done. Later this afternoon I went for a walk with a friend and our dogs along a wooded trail that I love. I was doing well and then the dizziness kicked in. I told her what was going on so we stopped by the river and sat while the dogs splashed around until I started to feel normal again. This dizziness/light headedness came on a couple more times along our walk but I took some deep breaths and just powered through. These anxiety attacks are awful but little steps and just trying to breathe through them until I have my doctor's appointment.

Fez1976 all my bloodwork has come back  normal so far with the exception of my iron being on the low end of normal. I am going to push to have my estrogen levels checked. Hang in there and hope knowing that you're not alone gives you some peace of mind xx.

Morning
Having spoken to few older friends who have been through this have said the fact that bloods come back normal would suggest even more that it's peri menapause. However it's the way doctors make you feel silly and irrational.

GPs don't know much about menopause nor how symptoms affect us.  My head is woozy after busy dreams and I'm shaking a bit.  Hopefully breakfast will ease that one!

Thankfully I have a very supportive GP. She has been wonderful anytime I've gone to see her and always takes my concerns seriously. I am lucky as I've been to other doctors who have not and have friends who have not been taken seriously by their doctors. My doctor is also only a few years older than me so hoping she may be in the same boat!!  ;D

CKLD, l woke up woozy headed and shaky this morning. First woke at 6am, went back to sleep for an hour and woke feeling like that. I think you sleep very deeply and dream intensely (if that's possible) when that happens. Took me a while to feel 'normal' again. Breakfast and distraction helped.

Tnx.  Still at the breakfast stage as well as not taking medication last night due to feeling poorly.

Had incredibly bad dizzy spells that started when I was around 42, I suffered with them every day for years until one doctor put me on Betahistine and I've never looked back.  They also stopped when I was taking hrt but unfortunately I was only on it for two months as I had two migraine auras in a week and was taken off it immediately.  Hope you get sorted as it's a horrible thing to have to live with.

Hi there,

Just wanted to post an update. Had my doctor's appointment today. Long story short she has prescribed sertraline to help with the anxiety symptoms, booked me in for pelvic exam tomorrow, going to test my LH and SSH levels in the event that my symptoms are hormonal, going to put me back on the birth control pill as she said that would help with that, and referring me for an MRI of my head to rule out MS. She is being very thorough and was very supportive. I'm thankful that she is addressing things right away. Today I'm continuing to experience high anxiety but could be due to trying to balance work, childcare, and anxiety re my medical appointment. I'm hoping the medication will help to calm me down. Aside from that, thankful to have a supportive GP  :)

Kate W, sorry you've had to go through all of that. I am also currently taking betahistine but I dont really think that's my issue as my symptoms now seem to be related to high anxiety. Glad to hear that it worked for you :)

Hi there.
reading your post is like listening to a post i myself would write.  im 48 now and i started out with those exact symptoms at 42.  literally overnight.  nausea, light headed but no spinning - like i was motion sick.  unfortunately for me i am still suffering.  it has been a long road for me.   :'(visited every consultant i could think of - 3 ENT specialists, 2 neurologists, 2 cardiologists. had MRI, bloods etc.
my own doctor is compleltely uncaring and even suggested i could be depressed.  that suggestion alone was so disheartenning.  in ireland where i live, its very hard to change doctor as they are all full to capacity.  my periods have changed in the last few years to shorter cycles but i havent missed one.  i wish they would just go away.
i too have low iron and i am working on that but what i think is important is if you get your ferritin checked which is your iron stores and with all bloods ALWAYS ask for a printout of the levels as they can tell you they are normal when in fact they are at the lower end of normal.  B12 is very important too.

i think the lowering of oestrogen affects our blood vessels and causes that light headed feeling.  i had my period on thursday last and all saturday i was sooo dizzy and felt sick with it.. just from walking around.  i was told by a nutritionist that there are oestrogen receptors all over our bodies, including the brain so im holding onto that.

i too am working from home and juggling kids, house, job etc and finding it very stressful too.

i wish i could offer you some suggestions, but i cant as i cant even help myself.  just make sure you are taking good supplements and eating well.. the usual lifestyle stuff.  unfortunately, blood tests dont show perimenopause changes as the hormones fluctuate too much.

keep in touch x

I hate that dizzy feeling.  Intermittent for me.  Fortunately.
