1 pump oestrogel- how much progesterone needed?
« on: March 18, 2020, 09:26:36 AM »

Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place, it's been a couple of years since my last visit!
Would any of you very knowledgeable ladies be able to advise on the minimum amt of utrogestan necessary if applying just a half to one pump of oestrogel daily? Tried Evorel 25 patches many moons ago and severely affected my mood ( struggle with anx/dep) so have been v reluctant to restart HRT. However, sleep so wakeful and impacting mood anyway that felt I had nothing to lose by giving it another try. I would like to begin very slowly however hence my question over the progesterone dosage? I am 47, and still have ( somewhat irregular) periods.
Any advice appreciated as currently unable to make contact with gp who originally prescribed 100mg utro for 10 nights based on 2 pumps, so presumably need less if only using 1 pump max??
TIA.

Hi continuous regime is 100mg every night.

Sequential regime is 200mg for 12 nights ( days 15-26 ) of yr cycle.

It depends on whether you are post or peri menopause. If your periods are very irregular then you might be ok on the continuous regime, but you might get breakthrough bleeding. Xxx

Thanks for your response Dotty - I appreciate everyone has many more important issues on their minds right now..
I am peri still and originally put on a seq regime- so to clarify, you are saying appropriate dosage wld be 200mg for 12 nights, regardless of oestrogen dosage? I'd hoped it might be less if only using 1 pump and possibly ok to take tge utro just every other day or is that never advisable?
Thanks again.

Hi Annies I have heard of ladies using less progesterone either on alternate days or vaginally , but this is usually off licence with the support of a specialist . X

Thanks both for your replies.. somehow managed to miss those! Since spoken to gp who wasnt sure whether 100mg alternate days is ok and is referring on to a more knowledgeable colleague! In the meantime I'm using 100mg daily as I have a feeling any less wont be recommended..

Hi Cassie.
Thanks...is that also orally? Did you have to see a specialist for that regime?

No vaginally, and I chose to do it that way myself, and have done for many  many years, I have a checkup every two yrs or so.

Ok thanks, good to know - may give that route some thought if it appears I'm not absorbing enough utrogest orally. My blasted period has arrived on day 19 this first hrt cycle, after just 3 days of the utrogestan!

Yes that does happen, using it the other way, makes a huge difference, good luck.
