Flax or fish oil

(1/3) > >>

CrispyChick:
I am thinking of supplementing for omega 3. I'm not sure which route. I understand fish oil is best source of omega 3 whereas flax oil needs converting. However, if flax is a phytoestrogen, is that a better thing to take in my 40s?

Any info?

CLKD:
Hi!  I tried it all 'cos it was fashionable in the late 1990s.  Couldn't break the flax seeds at all  :o they flew everywhere  ::)

Even the cats wouldn't swallow fish oil .........  :D

Phytoestrogen - how much problem regarding breast disease would this be? No one told me about avoiding foods when I had treatment in the 19990s.   :-\

Your diet should be enough other than VitD which may need supplementing in Winter months.  I know the symptoms now so don't need it - strangely enough it was in a very hot Summer that my levels depleted.

Hello CrispyChick.

I can't remember the science exactly but the phytoestrogens in flaxseed are beneficial because they don't bind with breast tissue so  are safe for breast cancer patients however the seeds are very tough and need to be ground before consuming.

Fish obtain Omega 3 from eating algae and you can buy capsules of algae oil if you wanted to avoid eating an animal product.

I agree that Omega 3 is helpful as it reduces inflammation.

Hope this helps and take care.

You can buy flaxseed flour.  I don't know if that has the same nutrients or not.

CLKD:
I bought bread with flax seeds in but it didn't keep more than 3 days  :-\ and wasn't that tasty  ::)
