Meno clinic appt put back again
« on: September 13, 2019, 07:49:09 PM »

I'm fed up! Came home today to find a letter from the meno clinic puting my appointment back until February. I had an appointment in March and was scheduled for one this month but that was changed to January.

It feels like I'll never get to have another appointment. I have been struggling with a return of symptoms so really wanted the appointment. My GP's great when I can get an appoitment, but he says the clinic are the best people to advise re options. He did say at my review appointment that if they postponed again as they  have done, he could write and tell them I really needed the appointent. Not sure that would do any good and it'll be weeks before I can get an appointment with him.

I'm guessing with all the shortages and the recent study there are more referrals, so I'm being put to the end of the list. It's so frustrating. Sorry rant over.

I would rant and then ask for a 'phone consultation.  This is NOT good enough!  Did your GP get a letter from your initial appt. with advice, it should be up to him to contact them if this keeps happening  :-\. Is it far from where you live?  If not I would venture in and have a talk about how inconvenient this is.

I'd find this unacceptable, too.

I'd like to change my HRT but my GPs told me there are only patches or pills available and got ratty with me for pressing for the gel (no such thing according to them!).

I'm having the gel now via a gynae and my GP now refuses to see me saying I should wait for my gynae.

It's frustrating and plain wrong. They do NOT understand how much damage they're doing by treating women like this but what can we do? Going private would be a dream for me and many others as going private means not so much better treatments but better treatment as a person.

Can you ring and ask if there are any cancellations or ask if there are tests etc that the GP could do so that you could maybe have a quick telephone appointment instead?

I hope you get seen soon.

OR : Do tell your Consultant that your GP refuses to engage.  That is not professional, taking 'out' his personal feelings on the patient.  Would he do that to someone needed insulin?

I hadn't thought of it like that.

Anyone else have GPs that behave in an unprofessional way? I've tried to think of it as a "they know best" kind of thing but I know how my body reacts to certain things (and have even gone along with diaries) but I'm still treated like a naughty child.

Or... it could just be me. I'm unfailingly polite but will sit there and argue the point sometimes. Not that it's ever got me anywhere, unfortunately. I think I should try to schedule my appointments when I'm not in PMT mode.

I think it's disgusting - almost a year to see a specialist after being delayed is just really unfair. At least your GP is being very kind in offering to write to them for you but it's just more time waiting :(

Onion Relish your GP is really wrong to get ratty with you, especially as he's showing his ignorance of what treatments are available. Is there a female in the practice you can see? Does the surgery have a practice manager or support group you could talk to about his behaviour? Surely he can't just refuse to see you!!

Mogster71, your words made me snort my tea  ;)

The worst offenders at my surgery are the female GPs. The very worst was a female who looked through the BNF when I requested gel, snapped it shut and slammed it down and kept repeating "patches or pill" quite aggressively until I gave in and said patches.

She's not the only one, though. My first female gynae told me older women only want HRT to make them more attractive to younger men and that ALL menopause was over in four years. Boy, did I leave there shocked (and also wishing the worst and longest ever menopause on her!).

Living rurally there's no choice but to accept what you're given. I yearn for only 15 years ago when my old GP would see me, listen to me and help me without making me feel like a nuisance or a freak.

Onion relish  ;D

Sorry - I didn't mean to make you splutter! I am just so surprised that you have had such rubbish treatment. I am in rural Norfolk, I thought it was bad that my GPs lost my blood tests 3 times in a row but this makes me feel lucky in comparison. What a nightmare! I even thought about changing surgery, we have 2 or 3 more in a different town we fall within the catchment area for. Really sorry to hear this :( x

Things are definitely not as good as they were in the good old days - from GPs to my body!

Hope you don't suffer any more lost tests in the future.
