Utrogestan 100 and oestrogel
« on: August 13, 2019, 07:50:12 PM »

Hi all first post here.  Have been on celeste duet for over a year and although stopped night sweats and confusion after having hystersterocopy due to constant bleeding and results showing no apparent reason. Gyne recommended changing hrt.  Having talked over with gp she has prescribed the above which i picked up from chemist. Asked chemist about taking and she said gel one pump a day and tablet one a day.  Been looking around and all info seems to refer to cycles and missed days ? And yet my dose says daily.  Is this so i dont bleed?  I have four tabs left from celleste so taking this till end befor starting new hrt.  Can you take utrogestan every day?  Another issue I have is loss of libido. Which i cant seem to get any dr to take seriously. In the past five yrs my patient partner has been understanding.  Im fed up listening to daytime tv shows and people experiences of hrt giving them new lease of life and increase in libido.  I want some of that🤓 i dont think of sex have no interest in sex or get sexual feelings in any shape.  Is hrt not meant to give you some oompth? Thank you for listening

Hi Littlesue

Welcome to the forum! There is so much help on here from lots of lovely ladies so you are never alone on this rolllercoaster menopause ride!

You can take utrogestan continually so you don't get a bleed but this is normally if you are post meno. If you are still in peri ( still having natural periods) you would normally take it for 12 days of a month.

That is m understanding anyway, am sure there will be others along shortly to advise.

Welcome Little Sue. If you are going to be taking Utrogestan on a cyclical basis you need to take 200 mcg ie two tablets daily, for 12 days.
100 mcg  is the licensed dose for continuous use  ( despite what the leaflet says, as Westie has correctly said you can take this every day without a break )
Utrogestan can be quite unstable in the body so you may continue to experience breakthrough bleeding until things settle.

HRT for the past 4 years hasn't made a blind bit of difference to my lack of libido, despite ever increasing amounts of oestrogen. I think that testesterone gel can help but it's not something I've tried and it's not licensed for female use in the U.K. unless you have an understanding consultant,GP or can get it on private prescription. Thank you ladies.  I have started today after final tab celeste duet yesterday. 100mg tab and 2 pumps gel .  Will take both non stop and see what occurs.  I talked to gp about hrt and increasing libido and how seeing women online and tv talking about hrt solving this and she said .... i think they are lying..... she said she has not had anyone whos libido has changed due to hrt!,,,   My testosterone was checked when libido went and showed ok.  Anyone had increase and return on hrt here?

It was testosterone that made the difference for me. It has to be prescribed by a specialist so ask for a referral to a meno clinic.

Everyone is different Littlesue - some can get some return of libido with just oestrogen and progesterone - others, testosterone will do it for them and some, just nothing works.
Testosterone did for me, not the hrt bit on it's own unfortunately.  Not so much a real increase in desire, just a return of sensitivity and "being interested when approached" would be an apt description - before the testosterone I couldn't bear to be touched!  It was hell cos before that everything was good and I found it really heartbreaking when it all went away, but now it's back! xX

Update.... after continual bleeding for over 6 months and a couple of very painful  hysteroscopy done whilst awake to rule out endometriosis and polyps it was decided as above to change hrt... having read lots info decided on the above continues Oand P , have not bleed since first dose of P 20 days in... also reduced night sweats....reduced bloating....reduced need to binge eat...and after 5 years feeling libido creeping in hard to explain what this looks or feels like but im finding renewed interest in being close to partner....have had some very erotic dreams in which my libido was very much there.  I can also say my get up and go has improved. I feel more energy and no pre bleed tension and tetchyness with people.  All in all better place at mo... will keep updated....
