Hormone levels
« on: March 21, 2019, 04:07:11 PM »

Hi all,,
Hoping someone will be able to give a little advice please.
I had a total hysterectomy 2 years ago and after a bad experience with livial I battled to get the bio identical hormones.. (oestrogen gel and Testogel) I have been taking these for a year now and they made a huge difference.. until about 3 months ago and I started to notice a big difference and the old horrible symptoms started to come back. After battling with my GP I finally got the correct bloods taken to check my testosterone and oestrogen last week but the Gp is next to useless in translating them for me.
Ive just turned 40 last week and wondered if anyone else knew what the levels should be as I'm banging my head against a wall here 🙈🙈🙈
My Serum Oestradiol level was <100 pmol/L and my testosterone was 1.8 Nmol/L.

I'm not a doctor, but I translate that to mean your oestrogen level is below 100 pmol which is really low, and your testosterone level is at the very upper end of the female scale - but my T levels are much higher than yours and my consultant wasn't concerned.

Do you have any idea what the oestrogen level should be for my age etc? X

I'm sorry, but no. One thing to consider is that each woman needs a different level of oestrogen in order to feel well, so comparing levels isn't always useful.

Yes I appreciate that I was just trying to work out if there was a range that I should be in if my results are low x

I think that you need higher dose of estrogen due to your age. I am 43 and my estrogen was about 293 pmol and my gyn find it quite low. I am not willing to upper my dose cause I have no symptoms and feel ok.
Livial mimics estrogen and it is used mainly for postmenopausal ladies. Maybe you can try pills for better absorbion?

Thanks for your help   :) it's all very confusing but I'm presuming I should still Be aiming for roughly the same level as other 40 year olds even though I've had a total hysterectomy.. rather than the results I have now which is that of an 80 year old lol..
It didn't help that my Gp has said that the levels were satisfactory and no follow up treatment.. I just knew from how I was feeling that it's not quite right x

I'm just wondering if I should try and get a referral to a menopause clinic .. which I'm not sure where would be as I live in the middle of nowhere in Wales lol

No they just checked my oestrogen and testosterone as I had a total hysterectomy.. they only tested those as I've made an absolute nuisance of myself as I feel so rubbish x

Hi there don't know if this is helpful but following some hormone level tests the doctor I saw told me everything was normal but I knew that want right due to how I felt so I asked to see a copy of the results - I think they have to show you the print out - the lab notes showed that my levels were out of the normal range. I made an appointment with the lead doctor of the practice to show him the results and asked why I had been told they were normal. He apologised, referred me to the meno clinic and the doc who mislead me left the practice! Not just because of my experience, I think there were other issues. So it's worth asking to see the results for yourself as they should show the appropriate ranges ... good luck!

My oestriadol is 243 pmol/l. I'm 45, peri menopausal and that blood test was taken after 8 weeks of using Evorel 50.

I feel a lot better than I did before the Evorel!

The meno clinic doctor sent me a letter with this and other blood test results saying there is scope to increase my dose.

Hi,

My Oestradiol level was 95 Pmol/l after using two pumps Estrogel for 3 months.  Doctor increased to three pumps per day to try and get my levels to 300 as they are for too low at the moment.  She explained this was to protect bone and heart health.  I am 53 and one year with out a period.

It was funny because my symptoms eg hot flushes and aching joints had improved dramatically in the first week of using Estrogel.  I have been on Utrogeston 100 continually for 2 months so far with no problems. Doctor suggested starting Estrogel first on its own for a month before adding the utrogeston so as if there was a problem we would know which one was causing it.
