How long.
« on: December 06, 2018, 09:06:58 PM »

Ladies,

Can I ask you  Iv just had 9 days on utrogestan, which is the most Iv ever been able to tolerate, and I'm feeling depressed ( I'm progesterone intolerant). 1)How many horrible days until the black dog lifts ?
                     2) Also do you have a couple of days off with no hormones before starting the oestrogel  or do you just put the oestrogel on straight away?
I had my last utrogestan tablet PV, the night before last.

Thanking you in advance Coll

Hi Coll

Sorry to hear you are feeling rough on the utrogestan

Firstly - if you are on a 3 month cycle you really should take it for the full 12 days to protect your womb lining. Nine days probably isn't enough for the prog to be fully effetive.

Secondly if you are taking it orally then  some of the depressive side effects can be eliminated by taking it vaginally - so please try this next time.

If you are feeling so bad that you really can't function at all after 9 days then I urge you to seek advice from the specialist who has prescribed this regime - since if you are very progesterone intolerant then an alternative dosage/duration regime needs to be found but only under medical supervision so that scans can be ordered (hopefully on NHS in your position?).

You will most likely experience a couple of days of progesterone withdrawal symptoms after stopping - starting the morning after the first missed dose - possibly like pmt - tension or a headache, or maybe slightly dizzy (that's what I feel anyway) but this should clear once your bleed starts and after a couple of days of your withdrawal period you should feel OK again with just the oestrogen gel.

I also do long cycle - but 6-8 weeks - this consists of 4-6 weeks of medium dose oestrogen only ( 62.5 mcg patches) to which I add 12 days x 200 mg utrogestan used vaginally. Once every year or two (when I remember) I take a course of 12 days norethisterone 5 mg to ensure the lining is properyl thinned as I am on long cycle - at recommendation of my (NHS) GP.

You take the oestrogen gel the whole time - no days off at all.

Hope this helps

Hi Hurdity,

Thanks to this brilliant forum I asked my consultant for Utrogestan and I do use it PV.
I have only ever managed 6 or 7 days before and I think (if I remember correctly) within a few days have had a good bleed and I do scan myself after to ensure I have a nice thin endometrium.

I'll go and put the oestrogel on now.

Thank you, Coll xx
