Are there still supply issues with testosterone?
« on: November 19, 2018, 09:35:50 PM »

Hi everyone,

I have been managing ok - working (part-time) and taking good care of myself. My mood is still low at times as is my energy and libido.

I get so upset when I do everything ‘right' and still feel flat when I know I didn't before all this peri business 😞. Still I am loads better than this time last year when I had to take 4 months off work due to anxiety. I really never thought I'd get better.

The Meno clinic were happy to prescribe testosterone last time I saw them 5 months ago but said there wasn't any available due to supply issues.

On the advice of someone on here I rang my local pharmacy but they only had Tostran I think (if my memory is correct) and the Meno clinic weren't keen to prescribe that (as they don't start women in that unless they've already been on testosterone).

Before I do another ring round all the pharmacies can anyone tell me if they are able to get testosterone where they are? Anyone in Hertfordshire? Sod it, anyone anywhere?!

Many thanks for your help xxx

Hi

I've just started on Testogel (I've started a thread in it here). I got it from a small pharmacy no trouble. Hope you get sorted.

Interesting re Tostran and your clinic Mindfulmoomins....which clinic is this?

Re supply issues the 1 % gel which came in sachets was of two types Testim and Testogel. Testim has been discontinued I gather, and Testogel sachets were unavailable for some time but I thought they were avialble now. The Testogel pump pack at 1.62 % is between Testogel sachets ( 1%) and Tostran (2%) in strength but due to the large amount dispensed per pump is not ideal. Tostran is not recommended as you say because it is less easy to give a micro dose - since women generally start with a pea-sized blob you will get greater variation in amount of T from varying the blob of Tostran than Testim etc. Chelsea and Westminster leaflet also give this (Tostran) as third choice - although the Testogel pump has been introduced since then. I would be interested to know what they are recommending now.

I got a box full of Testim in April/May but it was the last delivery of this to the surgery pharmacy so you won't be able to get this now I doubt. Also as it is designed for men, a boxful lasts ages for women - the tubes had a whole year use by (best before?) date but I won't actually have used it up by then before it goes out of date....

I think if you can't get Testogel 1% sachets then the Testogel pump pack may be the best idea but decanting a pumpful into a syringe and then dispensing a petit-pois size - if this is what your doc agrees with? Not sure how exposure to air affects the active ingredient (ie the T).

Thanks so much Hurdity and Dotty. Sounds like I may be able to get some!

The clinic was Northwick Park (NHS).
